Should I buy a Purefix bike?
I went back to the bike shop today to take another look at the single speed I glanced at the other day. Turns out it's a Purefix, costs 325 plus tax. It looks nice and all, but I hear mixed things about them. They don't have any of the premium ones, just the standard.
On the one hand I'd like to buy from a local shop, but I wonder if I could get something much better on bikesdirect for the same amount. Anybody have experience with these bikes?

Only one person will tell you its great, and post a pic of his ugly bike. All others here will say hell no, for obvious reasons. A bunch will suggest the "Pure fix Premium" which seems good, you cant get it, maybe they can order it for you?

I have one. Bought it a couple years ago to commute to school with before I ever joined the forum and learned about how ****ty it is. It being my first bike, it seemed pretty good cause I had nothing to compare it to. It worked and i've put hundreds and hundreds of miles on it. Been in 3 bad crashes, one involving a car. Bike still rides to this day. I'd say it's cheap and bombproof. I'm glad I learned to ride on a ****ty bike so I didn't ever ruin anything expensive. Also, when I get a nice bike it'll ride like a dream in comparison.

Guess I'll just buy from bikes direct and have them put it together for 60 bucks. I really wanted the messenger, as it seems to be one people say is the most reliable in my price range. But they are out of them.
When you only have 300 bucks you don't have a lot of options. I don't feel comfortable going the Craigslist route, I could be sold a bad/damaged bike and not even know it. I know bikesdirect ones aren't great, but I can read reviews of them around the Internet and they're new for what thats worth

I bought a Purefix, owned it for about 6 hours before it was stolen. Replaced it with a Retrospec as a cheap commuter, same thoughts as murrelington.

My first bike was a Pure Fix. I bought it based off Amazon reviews. After a couple months, I now have a completely new bike and realized how crappy everything on the bike is just from snooping around on these forums long enough. If you get Pure Fix, the extra $100 for the premium line is super worth it. As in, if I could redo, that's the only thing I'd get from them.

We get too many people with one or two posts bragging about how wonderful these things are whereas the long term posters with any experience regard them as rubbish. bravofixie might be on the level but the behaviour of others before him makes his claim sound like more Purefix advertising (which they have also been caught doing).

Bologne, everyone that owns one says it was or is a good bike for them/ All you other crybabies obviously never owned one. I bought a slightly used one for 160 bucks, I have been riding the crap outta it,,went about 22 hard miles on it today. Been doing well over a hundred miles a week on it since the snow melted. Bike seem industructable. It is PURE fun.
