Covering downtube shifter bosses?
Yes, I know this has been discussed before, I read all 7 threads I could find about it. Since all those threads are old [and none of them even mentioned the "problem solvers" solution below], I wanted to start a fresh one and see if any new information is out there.
I have a frame that has downtube shifter bosses that I'm not using. I don't want to grind them off but I would like to cover them. I know Problem Solvers makes some caps but they cost $20+ which seems like a lot for a little chunk of pretty non-descript stainless steel.
If you have (or had) a bike with downtube bosses that you covered what did you use? Bonus points awarded for posting pictures**.

Might look cool if you drilled a hole in some sweet bottle caps and bolted those on, maybe.

If some one gives me some measurements and a rough drawing I will see what I can make with one of these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MidPM...eature=related

I use Shimano downtude shifting levers. They look pretty cool and have this interesting effect of allowing me to change my gearing while riding.

I used a pair of Shimano cable stops on my Salsa Casseroll. They cost me $14 and come with attractive mounting screws, which is less than the problem solvers, and actually fit better. Someday I may want to put gears on it, and this way it's shifter ready.

Just get a pair of cable stops, and take out the adjuster. They're pretty much identical to the PS covers, but someday you'll probably need a set anyway.
Or what TT said.

Grind them off, paint the bike neon pink, and buy some matching Velocity rims. You'll thank me when you have more hipster poon than you can handle.

I won't bother spending money on cosmetics for something so miniscule... I'll just leave them like they are.
Chances are if you do care, people will notice them more if you attach things to them.

I'm not wild about the look of the cable stops. The bell was pretty creative.
I just got a crappy Peugeot mixtie from the 70's and I want to remove the pump pegs and probably the down tube brazed on shifter boss. I would keep the shifter boss if I could adapt it to some how hold a water bottle bracket, since there are no brazed on bosses for them. For those of us who have never removed brazed on pegs and bosses how would we go about cutting/grinding them off? Before anyone asks, I wanted the bike for its mixtie frame.

That bell is my favorite solution though. I'm surprised no one has tried mounting a brake lever on a downtube boss, in the vein of recent SSFG "innovations".

Indeed they are cheap, and they look cheap too. In fact, my Casseroll came with the dt shifter bosses covered with them, and I promptly chucked them. They look better bare with nothing covering them than something like that.

I should think some enterprising soul could mount a blinkie onto a small screw to go on the shifter bosses.
These screw onto your valve stem, could be made to work.
Or, screw on some dingle balls onto them.
Another option is to cover them with studs. Bag of 75 chrome studs for bedazzling your Harley leather saddle bag is only $9.

I painted the bare metal winter mint to match the rest of my frame and stuck the stock bolts back in there. I'm really liking that blinkie idea though! XD
