I think today marked the end of "Winter" training as the pace was upped significantly today for a 2:50 ride. Whenever I got to the front, I felt like I had to drive it to keep things going, yeesh. I now feel like the first race won't be as much of a shock to the system. I also learned that when someone says "I want to show you something," say no thank you -- we were taken to a climb that kept going and going and getting steeper and steeper. It probably won't look so bad the next time. But, with the driving pace and doing this climb for the first time, I can't say it was fun.

3:15 more today at a reasonable clip -- and still pretty windy! I did drive it a bit for a stretch on this road with someone who is a very strong rider and good/successful racer...he upped it a touch, I upped it a touch, he upped it a touch, etc...I was very happy when I saw a stop sign (just under 300w for 3.5 minutes -- that's up there for me); although, after stopping, I wound it up and took a townline that was 200 yards after the stop sign. I was then a bit drained for the last 40 or so minutes of the ride. I see some rest/recovery riding this week!

1:40 on the rollers at z1.1 putting me at 202 miles and/or 8:46 for the week.
Most ever in a week for me. Probably won't get to ride much this week. Moving into our house, woe is me.

Today was my first day riding outside in 3 weeks. 30 minutes with my oldest son. In honestly thought that he would be as fast as me, but I was doing better than expected. I got a couple ~3' spirited efforts in to assure myself that I have indeed lost a lot of fitness. The fatigue from illness is significant, and I hear that the anesthesia may stay in your system in some fashion for a significant amount of time. We'll see.

2:50 Z2 in a cold, biting wind.

This sucked. My morale is at an all-time low. I'm sick of riding outside in the cold and sick of riding indoors on the trainer. First races are still over a month away and my first priority race is three months away. I guess I'm having a crisis of faith - I don't feel like I am getting either fitter or faster (although objective measurements say otherwise).

So that's my whine for the month. Thanks for listening, and please go about your business.

Nice ride up Palomar for the first time today (South Grade). Motorcycle traffic was nonexistent on the way down, so the descent was safe and fun. https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view...2/?new_route=1

base 2012 in the books. oh my god how i need a rest week.

did a 5 (FIVE) day block that ended with 5 hours yesterday and then 2 hours of alternating standing spining climb and seated strength climb intervals today. totally wrekt.

bring on the couch.

first race is next saturday (11.4 mile TT i got 3rd last year, huntin for the W this year). think i'm ready but havent done an all out half hour effort with helmet and skinsuit and wheels yet this year so its anybodies guess.
