The "only" uphill on the downhill
After hearing about and seeing all the videos taken on, I finally got myself down to the famous
SART Sunday morning for a ride with Mr Beanz, his lovely wife Gina, Mad One, (Robert, where did you pick up that handle?), and El Monarcha. First time riding with the last 3, all nice people and good riders. And , well, everyone knows about The Mayor of the SART. But I digress. I met everyone down by Angel Stadium(or whatever it is called these days). We rode inland for a ways and then turned back around. This was the first time for me riding with more than just one or two others and doing a pace line. A new experience, with a great learning curve. I see where one must be focused all the time on what you are doing, or bad things can happen. I am used to being able to look around while riding, but at 18 to 20 mph, and right on the wheel of the person in front of you, you gotta focus, focus, focus. Like I said, a great learning time. We ended up down at the beach sooner than I thought we would and took it easy at what I was told is the usual meeting spot. Lots of people, action, and good looking women. We made it back to the cars without me causing any accidents, and I was thankful for that.
Seeing how I still felt like riding when we were done, when I got home, I took a break before heading up GMR. Started up a little after 4:30 PM. Lots of high clouds but still very warm out. I only saw about 4 or 5 riders heading down as I was going up, which was unusual for that time of day. Guess everyone had ridden earlier so as to then go watch the Crit in San Dimas. Didn't see one person heading up as I rode down. Made it kind of lonely up there, but it was a nice time.
