Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2018 Giant TCR Advance 2 vs 2017 CAAD 12

Hey guys,

Looking for some advice. I have been a mountain biker for years and have decided to take the plunge and buy a road bike. I have narrowed it down to these 3 bikes and looking for some advice and recommendations.

2016 Cannondale CAAD 8 with 150 - $1299 Canadian
2017 Cannondale CAAD 12 with 150 - $1699 CDN
2018 Giant TCR Advance 2 with 150 carbon frame - $1845CDN

What should I do? Pony up and go Carbon? Or stick with Cannondale?

TCR is pretty slick for $1,735US / $1845CDN. Full 105. Full Carbon. Hidden wire. I can't find anything wrong with it. They didn't even ruin it with a hollow crank and still kept the price down. I would go with that.

Giant is like Toyota. Or Shimano.

Huge company with resources to burn; their products are hard to beat for bang for buck.

Go with the Giant. For an extra $150 you get a newer bike and carbon frame.

TCR is a lot of bang for the buck and it’s what I would choose also. Have you taken any of these for a ride?

CAADs are cool, they're both different means to achieve the same thing, but not really comparable. Ride the TCR if you like compact geometry. Ride the CAAD if you like traditional geometry. Ride both and then come up with your own opinion of which one you prefer. Don't base it on the material that the bike is made out of. That's the least of your concerns if you don't actually like the bike.
