Don't most workplaces' dress codes require workers to cover tattoos? Or has that changed.

Not where I work. But we have lots of hot pipes, some of the craft management companies require long sleeves for safety reasons. The Carhartt shirt is available as both short and long sleeve. I have both and make decisions based on my current sunburn level and other factors.

I don't bother with the "kit." I wear athletic shorts and a golf shirt 99% of the time. Jerseys are reserved for special club events, sometimes.
