Groupset Mix n' Match

Hello,

I am currently running Shimano 105 5700 (10spd) on my commuter/beater bike. The crankset is 50/34 and I'd like to move up to 52/36. Shimano did not make 52/36 chainrings for this particular crankset (5700). I was thinking of trying a 5800 (11spd) crankset.

Does anyone know if an 11spd crankset will play nice with a 10spd groupset?

Thanks!

Not what you asked, but if you don't mind moving a step down to Tiagra you can still buy 10 speed cranks. Practically giving them away.... https://www.merlincycles.com/en-us/s...eed-92832.html

Yes, it works fine. I run a 105 5800 crankset on my otherwise 10sp setup.

Am I wrong to think the parts are available to swap chain rings?

Those are 130 bcd. Wouldn’t the OP’s cranks be 110 if he currently has 50/34 rings?

Yes & no. No, you are not wrong in that the parts are available. Yes, you are wrong in that the sizes I want are not available in the sizes I want (36/52) and the BCD that I need (110). The link you posted lists, 39, 52, 53 in 130 BCD.

Thanks for trying to help.

About 1/4 of the way down at linked page.. would rings like those listed in the section headed "110mm 5 bolt CT2 chainrings for "Compact Double" cranks" work?

I think those would work, but for that price you can get a new 5800 crank with the rings he wants for much cheaper.

As sheblyfv suggested I have a pair of tiagra arms that you can have for postage. They were on the way to the co-op tomorrow any way. Lemme know, MH

Chain rub on the big ring is likely, although you can fix that with thin (0.5mm) spacers from Wheels Manufacturing, Origin 8, LeTour, and other companies.
