I wear Salomon trail runners that don't have ties, others I've seen use a strip of velcro to hold them down.

I ride with Keen Newport’s and pinned medals. It is a good combination in Florida since the shoe is more of a sandal. The sole is stiff enough that my feet do not get numb.

I like my Giro Rumble VRs, in blue suede. I use them with toeclips and find them very comfortable for walking short distances. I just left the recessed SPD mounting hole section open. With these and my REI expedition bike / cargo / hiking shorts, I can easily accomplish most of my utility cycling, such as to a store or the YMCA.
