I wear Salomon trail runners that don't have ties, others I've seen use a strip of velcro to hold them down.

I ride with Keen Newport’s and pinned medals. It is a good combination in Florida since the shoe is more of a sandal. The sole is stiff enough that my feet do not get numb.

same thing i was going to say. i used these at Eroica CA with toe clips and straps and had no issues or problems. Plus they look a little like they could be vintage shoes, at under $80.
