This thread is just wonderful. And yeah, Stapfam is one of the people who I do miss a little here. But it has been excellent to see some other people posting here who haven't in a while. Any chance they can stick around for a while?

For those Fifty-Plus and older, I'm reminded of that frequently repeated 1960 TV version of Peter Pan with Mary Martin, in which Tinkerbelle was fading away, and Peter Pan pleaded with the TV audience,"If you believe, clap your hands; don't let Tink die."

It's good to see folks from yesteryear posting here; thanks for the kind words. My life has changed considerably since those days. I still ride, am in good health (fingers crossed at age 76), but have problems with motivation. I'll try to pop in more often.

STAPFAM was a regular here for a long time but it’s been quite a while since he’s posted. He was a British Marine and rode both MTB and roads and lived in Great Britain. He had health issues years ago but was riding well again as I recall. Anyone have any updates on STAPFAM?

@Artmo, that is like a 50+ Forum, Hall of Fame in that picture. I remember seeing it back in the day. Thanks for sharing that with us here.
"The Man, The Myth, BillyDon!" seeing that picture of Billydon is poignant, I remember all too well his PM to me about his cancer diagnosis, and those last months on the roller coaster, as the monster waned and then came back for good. His long running threads about the winter suffer-fest sessions that his cycling clique put together each year, along with his travelogues, made for some interesting reading over the years. He and Stapfam kept me going and were always great friends.

I know where you are in the photo, Denver. My memory is still working although I am approaching 80! I wish I were 179lb, but my wife and I still do about 75 miles per week on our tandem

I worked with Denver on the first group ride, shortly after joining here. Never had the opportunity to make any of the group rides due to work and financial matters.
When I had the pleasure of riding with you, and Jim and Sharon Muller, it was while visiting our son and daughter-in-law, up in New Hampshire.
Unfortunately, I will not fly with a bicycle any longer, American Airlines screwed me over twice on that trip and I won't get taken again by an airline, ever. I'll drive to where ever a ride is held, within physical limitations, gladly.
The ride in itself was fantastic, as were all the folks participating. Even though your ride was cut short, it was nice talking with you before the start. Hopefully, one will be put together shortly.

Thanks for the reply. Regarding that Metro Boston Ride we did, I don’t consider it a Fifty-Plus Annual Ride in this sense. Nonetheless as I posted earlier, you and any BF subscriber are welcome to contact me if you come to Boston.
Not to consider myself as the sole proprietor, but a devotee, I once posted this definition when the proposals were being circulated of one in the past, and I was taken to task for it:
…I'd like to propose this definition of an Annual Ride: One that is announced on the 50-Plus Forum for all subscribers, with sufficient lead time to make preparations to attend. No minimum number of riders, other than at least one besides the “host.”
After the ride there should be some narratives and photos of the event (“without pictures, it didn't happen”). Then the ride should be recorded in the Chronicles. It would be helpful to keep all the suggestions for a Ride on one single thread.

The idea that there is an official or sanctioned Bikeforum event is rubbish.
As a former moderator I discussed the legal and organization linkage between Bikeforums and any events announced within these forums with Tom Stormcrowe. He explained to me that there is none.

I'm still here... and expecting to come to AA [Ann Arbor].

What has captivated me most about Fifty-Plus beside the general milieu are (were) the Annual rides begun in 2010 up though last year. I have ridden in five of them, and have compiled the personal narratives of all the Rides on the thread, "A Chronicle of the 50+ Annual Rides".
I myself think this so-called "way it used to be" ended with the Fourth Annual Ride in Tennessee. BTW, billydonn was on that one.

...It turns out that we have a family wedding in Florida the week before the Natchez Trace ride.
The possibility of a round-trip circuit from Boston to Florida to Tennessee and back to Boston certainly appeals to my wanderlust.
