We had another update today. Obviously I'm not supposed to say what's in the update, but we did get some info about how the tests are going amongst some other information regarding small tweaks that have been made to the bike itself, which I assume were made in the last couple of months before they submitted for testing. Anyway, it's all pretty positive sounding, so fingers crossed they can avoid going too far off schedule now that all the R&D on the bike is completed.

Even though the updates are pretty short, they really are helping keep my enthusiasm for this bike very high

Hey great. Thanks for the Saturday update

Can’t wait for the public newsletter...it’s gonna be a big one!

I really hope someone this year is able to buy and ride a helix!

So okay, no more posting of the inside stuff.

So in other outside activities,

no whiff of the fat lady yet...

I'm tempted to email that guy just cuz it would be funny if I complained about this project for two years, then ended up with my very own Helix. I better not!

I'm interested in picking up another Helix, preferably a 10 speed.
(I can work on derailleurs, but I can't see inside those little geared hubs.)

I believe spec can be changed before shipping.

After seeing Mark Nicholson's post on the backer portal I too popped over to look at the Kickstarter comments. No others explicitly looking to offload their bikes recently but it is apparent that there are lots of backers that have never logged in to the backers' forum and are missing out on any kind of update whatsoever.

I guess, with backers from all over the world not all of them have the facility with English to wade through reams of idiomatic posts to get to the good stuff. Of course it could be just that some are not as bothered (obsessive) as others of us.

I am tempted too. Be good to have one for my wife but she'd kill me. She already thinks I'm an idiot for buying in on one.

Mrs Revolt knows I'm getting one, & doesn't object to it.
(I do so many more complaintworthy things that she has to prioritize.)
She said she doesn't want one of her own.
But I think she'd appreciate the upgrade from my old Dahon Helios.

Been following this. It's been delayed but the end product looks like it will indeed be cutting edge, especially taking into the cost to performance ratio. Beautifully done. My wife knows someone who purchased four of the first ten off the production line and looks like they will be ecstatic. Congrats to the creator Peter!

They certainly seem to have a whole bunch of production capability. Don't know if it is all in a line yet. Maybe it is, a preproduction line if you like.

Perhaps the "line" is in fact a windy serpentine, though evidence points to an asymptotic waiting time

Joke aside: I'm still rooting for them to succeed.

Add another syllable and a few more letters to preproduction, and it might work.

I have been following Helix for the past two years, coming back to this thread weekly, and excited about buying a folding bike and dreaming about travels with it around the world. I'm getting close to just buying a Seattle Cycles Burke 20 so I can start my folding bike adventures, but not if Helix will be shipping within 2018. Does anyone think this is a realistic prospect for non-backers? And what do you all think about the Burke 20?

It depends on when you actually want the bike. A Burke an be purchased today. The other things is has going for it is, it is built by the Linksey family, so proven titanium builders. That has to be worth something. It has been tested and certified. It has fenders and bags that you can actually purchase. It is ready for travel and will fit into a airline legal sized suit case.

Or you can wait it out and see how the Helix bike plays out.

If it was me, the Burke hands down. Though, I hope the Helix backers get a bike by 2018.

I probably wouldn't base my plans for touring the world on the release date of a bicycle.

Go Burke, be happy expediently,... Now, Hopefully the Helix will be released by the expected ship date, but I'd definitely not hold my breath waiting for it.

At almost $4000 more than the Helix, I could never justify the Burke.

By my reckoning, backers bikes should see delivery by June '18 earliest. Non-backers? Another 6 months.

It makes you think...

If a partnership between one of the world's most experienced titanium builders (with the benefit of economies of scale) and a small direct-to-consumer bike brand yields a titanium folder for a minimum of 5500 USD (7000 CAD), where does Helix get inspired to offer one at 1500 CAD?

Are we really to believe that Burke is keeping an ultra-plush 75% margin? Brands want margin, but they also want growth and scale. You don't get growth or scale with a prohibitive price-tag.

I reckon their minimum cost is 3500 USD... and, they're dealing with less mechanical complexity than Helix (Lefty fork, unproven hinge designs etc).
