Very new to bicycles. Looking for a hybrid bike. I test rode Specialized Sirrus Sport and really loved it. I read that there are other bikes with similar components for lesser price.

Which are the comparable bikes to Specialized Sirrus Sport?

I want a light bike (~25 lbs), not for speed, but just to spend less effort. Mainly for riding on paved road next to lake, but also very light dirt trail. No mountain biking. Maybe someday ride it to work?

I can spend upto $800, in the worst case, but hoping to get something in $400 range (2nd hand?)

Can anyone suggest any other bikes that I should look at? Btw, my company has discount for Diamondback and Raleigh, so suggestions for those also welcome.

The Cannondale Quick CX is a great bike and good value with ample gearing and hydraulic brakes at around a $1000 price tag. It also has lots of options to build it to be very versatile.

I would second the Cannondale Quick. The 6 is a nice bike and if you look at the 5 you add disc brakes.That said I would ride a Trek and then a Cannondale to see what fits you best. In my case the Cannondale was the best fit but I would have no problem with a Trek.

Btw, anybody has any experience with bikesdirect? Looks like they have similar spec bikes for pretty cheap.

A quick search will show lots of results for bikes direct. Biggest problem is you can't ride it first even if you know what size you need. Then, if your not comfortable doing initial set up and further maintenance yourself you'll be spending additional funds at the local bike shop. Not being able to test ride was what stopped me, as you try a few bikes you will find they are all different.

You know what you're looking for and the price range you're willing to spend. With that in mind, you can find good, quality bikes that fit your criteria from any good manufacturer. Since you get a subsidy for Raleigh and Diamondback, you should check them out. The internet makes this easy. It won't tell you weight but you can determine that by going to a bike store. That said, similar bikes, with similar frame materials and components, will be of similar weight. While you can order a bike online, you might be happier test riding a new bike first to make sure you have the best size for you. And if you are not planning on doing your own bike maintenance, you should probably buy from a good bike shop.

With an $800 budget, I would get a Trek FX 3 Disc. You get a bike with a carbon fork, isozone handlebar with ergo grips (really comfy grips), bontrager blendr stem, hydraulic brakes and in my opinion a pretty good looking paint job. Stock tires are 32c but you can go as wide as 35c if you want. Trek also offers a lifetime warranty on their frames (but so does other brands like Giant).

As others have already said, other brands will have similar equipped bikes for the same category and price point, so it is best for you to try and test ride a bunch of them before buying one. Buy the bike that fits you and your riding environment the best.

I'd personally look no further than the Raleigh Cadent 3. If your company's discount is the same as Raleigh's "corporate discount program" prices, you simply can't beat it. The regular price of a Cadent 3 is $740 and the corporate discount price is $595. For less than $600, you get a carbon fork, a 2x8 Shimano Claris drivetrain, Clement XPLOR USH 700x35 tires (those are 100 bucks a pair retail price!), and 160mm Promax hydraulic disc brakes. The listed bike weight is 24.56 pounds.

I definitely would try to ride one before you buy. If you have a bike shop that sells Raleigh bikes, perhaps they have a Cadent on the floor. Raleigh is less common in bike shops due to the prevalence of online ordering, but our local Specialized/Cannondale dealer still stocks some Raleigh bikes. Worth a try.

Also check out the Giant Escape line. Their 2019 Escape 2 Disc is $520 and comes with an aluminum alloy fork, 3x8 drivetrain, and mechanical disc brakes. The 2019 Escape 1 Disc is $750, and you get a carbon fork, 3x9 drivetrain, and hydraulic disc brakes.

Thanks. Yes, the Sirrus just felt better, although all the other models are not in stock nearby, so not fair comparision.

LSB offering 2017 Sirrus Elite for $800. What do you think? Given that they went from Sora to Tiagra from 2017 to 2018.

Is Elite still better bike than Sport, though older model?

That seems like a good deal. The Elite is the bang for the buck model in the Specialized Sirrus lineup. If you're not getting that, you might as well get a higher end carbon framed Sirrus.

Unless your LBS's have better stock expect to only find the $600-800 models! I was looking at the similar models in the 400 range but no luck, websites list the ones I wanted. With my commute and where just didn't feel comfortable spending over $500. Disappointed but found what I was looking for but not sure if I should say what since it wasn't at a LBS.. got it for $440 and two year warranty.
