My DAHON Mu

The frame is old. Everything else is new. Total weight is 7.7kg for now.

Very cool bike. Thinking of doing something similar to my Dahon. What chainset, bb and wheels are they?

The wheels are customized, similar to DAHON American Eagle wheel set, but lighter.
KMC chain, FS Energy crankset, ceramic BB, customermized chainring. All are light, with decent performance and reasonable price.

Really makes me wonder what is so heavy about my dahon mu. Most of my components should either be lighter or the same (carbon bar, carbon leavers, titanium seat rails, carbon cranks etc) plus I have a carbon fork & seatpost. Yet I am a good 1kg heavier. The only thing I can see that would be heavier on my bike are the grips as I love the full ergon grips, that is adding maybe 250grams.

Hi, maybe not that obvious, but I do have carbon bar, post, crankset, plus ti rail saddle, many ti bolts, ti pedals.
Perhaps my fork (AL ultralight, 380g) is a little heavier, but all others are not.
e.g., brake lever--60g; pedals--125g.

The biggest difference could come from the frame. Not sure, but I estimate mine(PKA) is 400g lighter than yours(PAA).

talking about lightweighting, there are many details to be considered.
Foe example again, I have this thing on top the fork (don't know how to call it), and it is 30+g lighter than the original one.

Yeah I already have a litepro headset, and a lighter allu bolt for the stem. Every single part is about the lightest on the market. I do suspect my frame is much heavier as they use your style of mu for the lightest mu slx model. I also suspect the carbon FSA cranks might not be as light as they should be, be hard to tell as I haven't weighed them and it's impossible to tell exactly what model they are.

Meh, I have a much lighter mini vello that I ride daily so it's all moot. Just kind of curious.

Weight is not everything. Your MU is a very nice ride! For a folding bike, I would say 10kg is the acceptable standard. I often carry my bike to office, gym, train…Any one lighter than 10kg will bring me no trouble.

For me it's almost sacrilegious but I am also beginning to move away from a weight focus. My other minivelo is about 6.5kg but the heavier mu is a smoother ride, reducing the weight is vanity for me at this stage.

I adore how that bike looks - especially black-on-gold and the spindly-looking chainring. How does that handle slight obstructions, though? Small, narrow, high-pressure wheels with no shocks can't be too comfortable if you hit something with any height to it.

To me it looks like 406. I don't understand the derailleur choice, mid-long MTB on a 11-25 RR cassette? Should change gears poorly in the slow range.

For folding bikes, XO derailleurs are my favourate ones so far. They work quite well, almost as well as RED.
Light, fast, good look, relatively cheap, rare, so why not?

You are right, The ULTREMO tires only work well on flat paved roads. But the ride is not so uncomfortable. Similar to the DURANOs.
And they are super light!

406wheels. I will not and I don't suggest to put 451 wheels onto a 406 frame.

I bought them quite long time ago, perhaps 6 years, but I was too fat--93kg--to use them. (also the wheel set has a rider weight limit of 80kg).

Luckily, they are still in perfect condition when I found them in my garage this year.

Some say the 406 ULTREMO is not durable, that's why it is gone and somehow replaced by DURANO.

Now this pair has done only 300km so I don't know the durability yet. We will see.
