FS: 79-80ish 25.5" black Trek 710 frameset
SOLD
I bought this frameset a little over a year ago, and it's constantly been overshadowed by my other bikes. Most of the time I've had it, it's been a bare frameset or wheel-less.
Condition is quite good, barring the paint on the bottom of the bb shell being worn away, and various paint chips, but no concerning rust. No paint bubbling anywhere else that I've noticed. I had the rear dropouts spread to 130mm when I ran it as a 650x38b conversion. Tange Levin headset was overhauled by myself shortly after receving the bike and is nice and smooth. I'm sure I'll regret selling this lovely riding frame, but it's the right thing to do.
Seat and seatpost will be included; I will be keeping the cable hangers, downtube guide, and stem.

Rooney,
I've been watching this one, even though I'm nowhere near NYC. I think you posted it in the iBob list, too, but I'm not 100% sure of that.
Can I ask a couple of clarifying questions?
Do you know any other specifics about the geometry, like top tube length and angles? Even before the Vintage Trek website went down, they didn't list geometries for other sizes than a single medium-ish size.
When you say that it fits 650b x 38, what's the limitation? The fork blades? Chainstays? If it's the chainstays, "38" is without dimpling, yes?
Thanks,
Mark in Seattle.

I’m on a phone so it’s hard to make out the SN. It looks like H5C4A8_. (Can’t make out the last number.) I must be misreading the 4 as that’s supposed to be the year code and doesn’t fit any possible year in that naming scheme: it should be 6,7,8,9, or 0.
If you were local, we wouldn’t be debating SN’s, just where to meet for the purchase.

I remember running into that same problem when trying to date the bike myself. According to Vintage-Trek it seems there were some bikes which ended up with serial numbers that strayed from their conventional system around the time of this bike.
This was the closest explanation I remember finding.
“C. One early TX700 (leading G), an evaluation frame sent to a bike shop, had a 4 in the year digit. Another impossible year code. This 4 may signify an evaluation unit.”

I read those exceptions too but it didn’t jump out at me because yours starts with an H. But perhaps it’s one of those as well?

I see the H and that's all that matters since I know the size will be "5" for 25.5". Full 531 and 65cm tall--perfect. Been looking for one of these or a 730 (not going to talk about one I passed up earlier in the year on Ebay for a decidedly higher price than this). Love these full-531 Treks--they simply ride and respond so incredibly well. I'm on the west coast, so like others, I'm out of the running unless you decide you'd like to ship (and I fully understand why one wouldn't/doesn't--that's me as well 99.9% of the time). Hope you sell it soon!

Bump.
There’s a frame box sitting at work that should fit the frameset. I expect it would cost less for shipping than the full size bike box. If someone outside of the NYC area is interested, im willing to ship; buyer pays shipping cost.
