Back in after 25+ years. -stoked as a merf.
I am all in again since my big hit by s drunk driver in 1998. Lost confidence in racing. Walked away from it but my Schwinn Paramount was gone. Fast forward to here. This time much older and married again. Bought a couple used bikes I’ve been working on this past month to get ready to take her out on her first trail ride. Hers is a 2014 Cannondale Trail SL 4, mine is s recently acquired 2915 Redline D600 29er. The hitch rack is a Saris Thelma. Altogether, $520 spent. Waiting on a few more parts like a new seat post, seat, tires, pedals and grips shopped hard on Amazon. Trying not to fiend a whole lot because it’s always buy high, sell low.
If this takes off, we’ll invest in more stuff like neeer bikes and gear. Just not sinking s bunch of cash or credit before we retire in a few years.
New to us. Cleaned, tuned and almost trail ready for the first time.
Love everything about this bike. Even the seat but it’s getting switched for a carbon tube and spoon. Maybe a new Shim m7000 groupo from Santa in a few weeks.

JimmyFish....enjoy the ride!
A couple of nice bikes to get back into it but I'd swap to pedals and seat

I just want to have some fun. Not out to rack up a bunch of co-pays tending to injuries, however I do want to take the advanced route and go above the green trails. Lots of reading and research going on now. Watching a lot of vids and a whole lot of window shopping! Brings back memories of my old riding days when front suspensions were a pros-only thing. My how this sport has changed since the mid-80s! I got back into this after joining this forum to get info about my 85 Rockhopper back on the road. One thing lead to another and I picked up an 04 Gary Fisher Marlin to ride. It's contagious.

Oh, that seat. But I'll keep in in the garage. It doesn't look good on this bit, but it sure is comfy! I'll drop is back on for things like a Critical Mass ride and for cruising downtown excursions like when we go to St Augustine or Savannah. Nothing like sitting in a recliner while making our way sightseeing.

But to tell you the truth, the seat post size is my 27.2mm vs her 31.8mm so a swap won't work. LOL
Actually, when I brought the Cannondale home, she loved it. Not as much as me but I couldn't resist giving it to her so she would have a great bike to work with. But my interest went away in that bike when I got this one.

What's a merf? I take it in this context it's a good thing to be as stoked as one?

I hope you get out of cycling what I get out of it. It's where I get a lot of my serenity.

You betcha. I got out Saturday morning before daylight and got about 15 miles of road. Took my wife to a local bike park and put in another 7 miles. Got up this morning and another 15 miles by sunrise. Totally relaxing and yes, serenity.
