Bicycle restoration
Having been medically retired i needed something to do, a neighbour gave me a Hercules in a sorry state so i stripped it down, stripped the rusty paint off and resprayed, cleaned all the metal work, new tyres and reassembled, got the bug and now can't stop rescuing and restoring.

I hear you! It can be a wonderful way to meditate. The last bike I did took almost a year off and on . Most would have let the bike die , but I saw something in it and just couldn’t help myself. I did not respray the bike as I wanted the patina to tell the story of its past . You can read about it on my blog joesvintageroadbikes.wordpress see Rusty Resurection. Enjoy the journey , Joe

There are worse things you could do.

Growing up poor and having to scarf parts and pieces to put together bikes to ride, after early retirement last year I decided to go full blast into bike repair and restoration for kids that would otherwise not have bikes. A local organization housing many neglected and outright severely abused children had a room full of broken, rusted unusable bike donations piling up. I put quite a dent in them last year, delivering almost a hundred of them between July and Christmas. I took January off, but am cranking back up again this week or next. Haven't been around here long enough to post the link yet (10 posts required first), but if you are on Facebook, my page documenting this adventure is: Uncle Joe's Bikes

Check out the Classic and Vintage bike forum on here. There are some very dedicated and knowledgeable people on there who have vast supplies of unusual parts as well as being willing to offer advice to other C&V types.

Careful, it can be addictive. Many years ago I pulled a bike out of the metal pile at the dump, and kept finding better and better bikes.

I resemble that remark. If you need parts, post a list, and someone will probably be able to help you out.
