first generation Fuso
Just picked up this first generation Fuso. Not sure whether to keep the DA 7400 components, go to period correct Campy (last gen Super Record) or retro mod it with Shimano 105.

Love these, have 2, 1 way too small, 1 less so, Dave came to a shop here about 5 years ago on a meet and great, talk tour. Great guy and fascinating story.
One could argue his Paris-sports came before these but......

I would say that the current components are as period correct as Campagnolo Super Record would be and probably work better. This is coming from someone who has owned mostly Campagnolo equipped bikes

I promised to come back after I got this built. I decided to make this a rider and went resto/retro mod on it. I know that crank is hideous and not strictly necessary to the functionality I want but I had the 105 group as a takeoff from another bike.

I picked up a repainted 85 Fuso frame earlier this year. I’m still accumulating parts for my build. I’m planning on keeping everything Asian-American on my bike with no Italian parts. So far I have a Phil Wood BB, IRD Defiant 50/34 vintage look Crankset, Suntour Superbe Pro long cage RD, Nitto bar and stem, Suntour 14/34 freewheel, Specialized hub with Saturn rims, SR seat post with Brooks Pro frame refurbished with a custom white leather top by Rudi Mayr. I will add Superbe/Superbe Pro FD, downtube shifters, brake set. Will swap between Shimano SPD pedals and Suntour Superbe Pro pedals with toe clips and straps.
Work in progress.

I like the update route you took! The silver 105 isnt the greatest on its own, sure, but it actually kinda matches the silver in the frame.

Well I'm glad you got this going, this is one of his best paint schemes IMO but man are you correct about the crank.I know this probably works great but I couldn't t do it, good thing is you don't have to see it when you're riding.
I feel like I'm being poked in the eye with it.

I’m jealous. You have the metal head tube badge. The seller of my frame gave me a full set of stickers including a head tube sticker. He got them from Dave Moulton but Dave no longer has any metal head tube badges.

I have spent God alone knows how much money on bikes and tools and parts and accessories this fall, to the point I'm afraid to think about it.
And then I see another Fuso and I am damn glad it's too small because I'd find myself ..... thinking......counting pennies......

Oh, I didn't see the $2,400 listing for the complete bike. There's a blue 61 cm Fuso frame asking $475 + $125 s/h. I've seen complete bikes go for $700-1500 in the Socal Craigslist and Offerup ads. Keep your fingers crossed. You may find a bargain eventually!
