720 on 7/20!!!

I got all the way through today, went for a ride and was just checking email and stuff on a stop and realized it's 7/20! Now I realize that I entirely missed 6/20 and I no longer have a 420 to post for that day.

Post 'em if you got 'em!

Here's my 85:

I redid the shifter cables the other day- I did the double criss-cross- the cross in front of the head tube and cross under the down tube- it has a more gentle bend in the housing- the cables do touch, but I can't imagine the rubbing would be any more damaging than the rubbing on the bottom bracket. However the cables DON'T rub against the head tube. Plus, I like the pretty arcs.

You'll have to figure out a date convention that works... maybe July 6th?

I do miss my 420- of course I also miss being able to have the excuse to post it on 4/20.

This was also my first really cool "vintage" road bike- and it was so beautiful.

Have put riser type stems on all of my road bike builds for the past 12 or 14 years to get the bar up to saddle height. It is more comfortable for me.

I thought I bought it in 85 or even 86 but I checked the serial # on the vintage trek site and it tells me it was made in 84. Maybe the frame sat around at the Trek factory for awhile before it was built or it sat unloved at my LBS before I bought it. In looking at the old brochures I agree it looks like 85 paint and decals.

For that kind of shooting I like the subject isolation I can get with wide apertures and short telephoto lenses.

Those were shot on aperture priority whit an 85mm lens set to f/1.4 on a full frame DSLR with exposure compensation set to -1 stop for the dark background.

The price of that lens even used and a few generations old would buy a nice bike but it can excel at subject isolation.

For much less money a lens like a late 70s or 80s manual focus Nikon 105mm f/2.5 Ai could do a nice job for for around $150 or less

shot with the 105mm @ f/2.5

Actually for the closeup detail shots a almost any 50mm lens wide open will do a good job if you get in close.

I don't know if it's abundantly clear, I'm ridiculously in love with my 1985 Trek 720.

Once again, it's 7/20 and I once again went out for a little ride on my 720.

However, on today's ride there was a little bit of an "incident."

I had to stop to eat a whole bunch of yummy berries!!!

So today I also stopped to take a picture of my 720 in front of 720 on 7/20. I thought it was cute.
