Generic Front Rack/Brake Attachment

Total noob question, perhaps: I am considering a light, generic front rack that attaches at the fork (rim) brakes. When removing the brake attachment bolts (5-6mm hex), what are the precautions? Is the bolt sufficiently long enough to replace without needing new hardware?

Thanks, in advance!

Most of the load on a front rack is carried by the bolts that attach the rack to the dropouts so the brake bolts are plenty strong enough. However, you have V-brakes and the bolts that attach the brake arms to the mounts are sized to allow the arms to pivot freely. There is no room for the mounting brackets.

Do you have a hole in the fork crown for a side pull brake that could be used to mount the rack? Otherwise P-clamps around the fork legs could also be used.

You need to change the bolts securing the brakes with ones designed so that the rack can mount to the brake bosses. See https://velo-orange.com/collections/...mounting-bolts.
