And congrats for the new position. Seems to me like a huge move, really awesome.
My understanding is that if you give 2 weeks notice and the company walks you out then they need to pay you the two weeks. The Missus gave her notice 6 months in advance (for various reasons) with the understanding that if the firm decided to walk her out they'd pay her. They didn't walk her out so the "walk out pay" thing didn't get tested.

It's not so much the unpaid vacation time that I mind, it's losing health insurance. With two stage races coming up it's probably not a great idea to do them uninsured.. when I was previously unemployed I got USAC's "supplemental" insurance thingy, but given that it said "THIS IS NOT INSURANCE" on the bottom of the card they gave me didn't exactly instill confidence.

If you have any pre existing conditions, you should pay the COBRA premiums to insure to gap in coverage.

That's good solid advice though.

Everyone was awake, believe it or not. Junior was busy doing an inventory of all the stuff on the first floor, running around and (re-)discovering this or that. The Missus was getting ready for work - she left shortly after.

I got really lucky to get laid off once. This was right before the dot-com bust, so finding another job for more money was a breeze. "Corporate" had decided to close our game studio, but we had to finish our current contracts with Disney and Hasbro Interactive. So they offered a 50% pay retention bonus, to be paid when they finally let us go. I managed to go from project to project and actually turned out the lights on the last day -- maximizing my retention bonus. Took a generous severance too, and started at my new job the following Monday for 50% more money.
Those were the days.

My wife surprised me and we are going to see Seinfeld tomorrow in Vegas. He's one of those 'did you ever notice' comedians that was really popular in the 90's

Congrats, matt! You know you're going to disappear entirely into the Apple enclave, right?
My major reason for shaving (other than, of course, the fact that my legs are delightful and everyone should be able to gaze upon my finely sculpted calves and lower quads without an obscuring layer of body hair) is the application of sunscreen. Riding a bike a lot means applying a lot of sunscreen to your legs, at least if you have any sense, and applying sunscreen to hairy legs is DIS-GUST-ING. Ugh.
By the way, other than the first shave of the season, which can require a razor to hack through the forest (and my leg hair isn't even that thick), I use an electric body shaver to keep my legs clear. SO much faster, easier and cleaner. I wouldn't have the wherewithal to keep up with it if I had to do a wet shave every time.

There's a way to play the float on Cobra. You get 60 days to make the election.

I'll look up the deets to be sure though, of course!

glue scrubbing intervals with a healthy dose of goof-off on the side. i had glued a tubular to this rim a few weeks back, but that was a bad idea as the surface was very uneven, and the tire had no chance to staying on there. Took off the tire, took off essentially 6-7 coats of glue; finally learned that a butter knife dipped in goof-off is very effective in removing large gobs of glue.
now time to re-apply glue to the rim.

Anytime my growth gets to about 1 week, I take care of it. Full body. I think I'll be this way the rest of my life now too. I just can't stand hair, I've gotten too used to smooth! Looks and feels better in addition to all the cycling reasons its good (aka dirt and bugs in long rides....eww with hair)!

Hopefully next week the bike shop will have my track bike built . I'm really excited about it but I don't want to nag and call the shop since they're probably still waiting for parts to trickle in.
