The Sugino cranke is beautiful, love the white housing with the other colors, and nice touch on the chainstay protector.
Related note- Dajia is a brand by VO. Just another brand that they registered and have slapped on components. Not knocking them as the Dajia CW components all pass the look test with flying colors, but just found it interesting that its a VO owned brand.

The housing is actually coated bare stainless braided. Just looks white in the sun.

I'd post mine as well then, since this thread gave me the inspiration in the first place.
It's not an MTB, it's a trekking bike from 1994, so 700c wheels. It's tons of fun!

I've gathered all my parts and I've run into a snag. I'm using a Marin Bear Mountain SE frame, triple butted, super light, and it has a threadless stem. The flat bar is thinner than the drop bar I picked up, and it won't fit. What information do I need to pick something that will let me connect a drop bar made for a quill stem, to a modern threadless set up?

It's that easy!?! I don't have to scour EBay for a Shmimanotour Theta groupset made only between '72-'74 and pull the freebuss drop forged gooseneck stem? I'm almost disappointed!!

Machine shops are everywhere. I have had stems and seatposts turned down from a diameter that was too big for my needs to the correct size for my application. I was quoted $54.50/hour labor rate at a local shop and the tab for each piece was ten bucks. That's how easy it was for them, and how cheap it was for me.

I have (or at least like) a short reach and so hadn't really been successful finding a mtb conversion that fit well. I decided to do whatever it takes to get my hard rock fitting the way I want and here's the result. Looks pretty weird, but man it's comfy. Brooks is somewhat temporary while I rebuild my univega but hopefully I'll find one for this bike. The rack and fenders were $5 and $10 co-op finds (I still can't believe I found the 26" Berthoud fenders so cheap). Rear rack and panniers are soon to come, I'm hoping to do a bit of touring this summer.

Thought I would stop in and show my next drop bar conversion project. This is "as found". Its a beat up, 1984 Trek 850. The early Trek MTBs were nicer builds than the later versions. This 850 originally came with Shimano Deerhead derailleurs (the RD and thumbies are gone), a 600 triple crankset (still there), a Reynolds 531 frame, and more.
It needs a rust bath first. Fortunately, seat post and stem came out. I was camping in Colorado at the time, I always look for bikes when I am traveling. I also came home with an early Stumpy. Not sure what I will do with it (paid too much for the Stumpy).
Had to strip the bike down to fit in the truck (there were five other bikes in the truck, along with a lot of camping gear).
Somewhat interesting, Trek had three MTB models that year, and the 850 was the only one with 531 tubing. The other two are 501.
This one could be a sleeper. Rough, scraped up, beat up, but underneath a pretty interesting bike. Ive been looking (not really hard) for either a 1983 or 1984 Trek 850 for a long time.

I discovered that a Kansas gravel road is just minutes away from my house 3 months ago. Every weekend I average 80-100 miles. I already have A jamis renegade and a drop bar converted giant roam. I thought that i should have another bike to share the vicious hours of biking. Bought a Trek multitrack on our area and have it drop bar converted. Installed a Shimano STI 3x8 and put my old 8 speed wheel out of my giant ocr. The bike alnost as light as my jamis. Im thinking of using it for LANDRUN 100 mudfest.lol

Seems people have been cleaning up on these old lugged Trek MTBs recently. That's awesome. The later 8xx builds were pretty crappy component-wise, but you're right, that 84 has some nice bits on it. Good to hear from ya, Bill!

Got that 1984 Trek 850 finished. Found a matching (same date code) Deerhead RD. Added Shimano friction bar ends and a set of Rando bars (1983 date coded). Original anodized 600 crankset and Deerhead FD.

nicely done Bill, though if you're going to go to the trouble of matching date codes on the components, you might as well go all the way.. needs non-aero levers, period correct saddle and pedals hahaha those older Treks do look nice, especially with the sloping crown fork
