Yeah the maker's technique wasn't the greatest, though they were ambitious with the design and features. The pics I saw when I bought it made the fillets look a lot smoother. If I like it once I build it up, I'll probably have the brazing cleaned up and have the frame repainted. It deserves to be finished properly

Does anyone have a good guess what size this Miyata is? '83 or '84 Ridge Runner. I have a hard time determining what will fit me on non-compact geometry MTB's. The seller says it's a 18 inch medium. If it is, 18 inches would be fine it it were a compact frame. The smallest road frame I can ride is 54cm. I can see the TT length is fine but on this bike I wouldn't want a foot of seatpost sticking up.

Nice one, 9volt! I think you have better tubing than me with your EX. From what I've been reading at least. It's hard to find some concrete info on this bike.

A ton of those Diamondback Ascent EX bikes showed up on ebay NIB a few years ago. Bought one but it ended up being a little small for me. With the possible exception of the plastic mountain LX brake levers some of them have that is a very solid bike.

Here's an '80s Lotus that I got as a bare frame and built up with parts from our wholesale catalog at the time. First pic is with a rigid fork and second with a Lawwill Leader fork. Later sold this frameset to a guy who wanted to build it up for a friend. Frame was nothing special, CroMo main tubes and a bit small for me.

I love those diamondbacks.
I bought an apex a few years back with the same paint and the guy told me they did the smoke effect by hand in the factory with candles. Have never been able to confirm it but it's a cool story

obviously an extremely imprecise way of measuring, but maybe better than guessing

I have what appears to be exactly the same Terra Tech bike, bought in 1988 or 89 I think. Do you know where to find the serial number? I can't find it...What do you think this is worth now> Mine is in really great condition, not used much.

Today it was wet and cold. But I had to do a test run with the newly arrived front derailleur. I have been using it without since I put it together.

Just recently picked up this '83/'84 Diamond Back Ridge Runner. The plan is to clean it all up and restore it first, then depending on how I feel about it after that I may try out a drop bar conversion on it with fenders and racks.

My tall nephew needed a campus bike, so I steered him to this: 1989 Schwinn Probe (Chicago built!). We changed to flat bars and added a tall seatpost. Very cool IMO, and a perfect for his needs.
