This is an exact copy of the first "real" bike I got for Christmas in the early 90's. Rode the ever-living crap out of it for a lot of years (pretty much until I started driving). Not sure what happened to it, I think my mom chucked it when she moved last time.
I've been thinking about getting another MTB lately, tons of lovely trails to hammer around on here in the PNW....

There are certainly better ways to spend $50, but the nice thing about that bike is you could buy it, ride the crap out of it for a couple of years, leaving it sitting in your garage for a couple more and then re-sell it for $50. It's basically free.

That would be a better choice for reliving one's first "real" bike than my Huffy White Heat! God, how we kids wanted those when they came out. Came across that bike while moving some stuff around in storage garages a few years ago, and it was eye-opening: heavy, steel rims, BMX-style caliper brakes, awful shifters... perhaps that's why I hardly biked again for years after getting my driver's license.

But you can "visit"! I bought an old Schwinn similar to my or Coppertone Varsity (1964). It rode just as I remembered. It was fun. A nice little "visit". But I didn't keep the bike.

I stand by my claim that the Alu Trek 7x0/8x0 mountain bikes are the 60's Beetles of the bike world. Cheap, durable, fun.
Spend the money, if you change your mind, you can get $50-100 for a sound, clean bike.

I agree that there might be better uses for the money, but if you can spare the funds the bike might make a nice guest bike or loaner. Now if it were the very same bike you used to own that would be different, although I rebought a Nissan pickup after selling it and never used it much and wound up selling it again a year later.

It's pretty easy to pick up a blast from the past, but if I tried to ride those lead weights I'd feel the old man bones I have. It's also pretty easy to pick up a top end bike from the past, for not much more, and pretend I have young legs again.

the nostalgia might make it worth it but if youre just looking for a vintage mtb there will be higher end stuff available for a similar price point. maybe i'm a snob but at least go for something with a chainring that isn't riveted together. also, the ad claims it's been serviced but the front tire is flat and the front brake cantilever is hanging down, so make sure that's all sorted out before handing over that benny

Guess the add was updated. It was definitely only $50 the other day. I guess he "serviced" it and is now asking $99. That definitely cuts too deep into my limited hobby budget. Oh well.
