I biked to work on National Bike to Work Day on May 18, 2018.
then again, I do that most every day. I didn't even know today was special.
Track-stand practice with messenger bag, Fender (rear) reflective tape and high vis vest

We had BTWD last week on the 10th in my area.
Probably three times as many riders as I usually see on the trails, and three times as many colleagues as I usually see riding to my office.
I still haven't mastered the track stand on my fixed gear... I'm much better on my other bikes.

Didn't know today was BTWD either, and rode in. Didn't see many out, either. I think it had to do with the weather. It was misty in the morning, and the thread of a large thunderstorm this afternoon probably kept most bikes home in garages.
Should be a fun ride home!

Newbie here! I partially bike to work today. I rode to the bus-stop from my house. I loaded my MTB on the bus' bike front rack, and unloaded about 5 bus-stops before I normally would so I could pedal the rest of the way. I will do this more and more in the future. Once I rebuild/restore a 1973 Varsity that I picked up at a garage sale recently, I will try to extend my commuting range a bit more. Who knows, maybe skip the bus altogether next year after some practice and confidence building.

My longest track stand was probably with my track bike at a light, coming home from the velodrome.
I was so darn proud of myself. But I forgot about its short wheelbase and toe overlap (not a problem on a 200m velodrome). Soon as the light turned green, my shoe hit the front wheel and down I went...

I learned to trackstand with a freewheel by using the road, then when I got a FG it was a real switch and I lost the ability to trackstand with the freewheel.

Accompanied the wife on a one-way commute to work for National Bike to Work Day. It's a route I've ridden many, many times to go out to her workplace and meet her for lunch. But I've always ridden it around 9:30am or so. Not bad. Let me tell you what, those same streets at 7:30-8:30 are just plain unfriendly. We got intersection-jumped by an 18-wheeler, and he stared right at us as he did it. 'Twas 28.5 miles one way, traffic was fairly heavy through 80% of it, especially when we got anywhere near a freeway entrance/exit. Missed so many lights we ended up with over 25 minutes of stopped time, compared to 6-7 minutes when I usually ride out later in the morning. It was tough. There is no way someone could do that commute every day by bike. Forget about the return-- she usually gets off of work around 6pm, the amount of trucks coming out of the distribution warehouses, added to the usual commuter traffic... ugh.
We still had a good time. I'm picking her up after work... with the car.

I did Bike to Work Day,
My office moved to 20 miles away two years ago, and to another location still 20 miles away a year ago, so I've only done the commute a handful of times.
To hit the pit stops I did a little extra this morning, and because I'd not done this office commute before, took a few wrong turns. Ended up at 27.5 miles. I'm driving home.

Decided to ride my least commute-friendly bike to work on Bike To Work Day. (Because I can. And because I really need to spend more time getting comfortable on the aerobars.)

Welllll..................................scared by the weather forecast and drove to work today. Poured down rain a couple of hours after I got home from work. But, I did bike to work three days this week. (Bike to Work Week.)
Retiring at the end of this year, so may have missed last opportunity to do Bike to Work Day.

Pouring rain this morning, some lightning, and strong rain forecast in the afternoon. I wisely took the car. It would have been 3 hours in a wet nightmare. When i got home, there was an inch of water flowing down the street.

It was BTWD last Thursday (5/10) and the weather was perfect. I wonder why this isn't a national thing on the same day. I read that Santa Clara and San Mateo counties had 44k riders, 10% more than they expected: https://bikesiliconvalley.org/2018/0...shing-success/. https://photos.app.goo.gl/m5xcTozAwAWDvJMR2

Me either. Though I did also throw the trailer on a rebuilt Schwinn Varsity and bike to do the shop's laundry, then again to do mine, (I keep ride clothes at the shop and start any serious rides here so I can check the bike on the stand, restock tubes, etc. and some clean street clothes in case I get greasy but need to be presentable after work) then took my 7100 to pick up some supplies for the shop in addition to the commute.
