Where's the "wall" on the long island express way?

The wall runs along the side of the expressway almost the entire length from Queens well into Suffolk County. It's designed to be a sound baffle for the benefit of ritzy titzy homeowners along the route.

I heard of people going to the 2nd wall and coming back. I usually go to wheatley road make a left and make a loop around oyster bay. how far out is that 2nd wall? This morning around roslyn road someone asked if was going to the wall.??

In that case, I'm not sure what "wall" you're referring to. 'Anybody else have an answer?

Often times, the wall in question is east of Syosset. The service road technically ends at Woodbury Road, you turn left onto Woodbury Road, go about 200 yards east, passing under the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway, under the L.I.E. and turn left onto Angel Way. There is a wall on your right. This will go north, then turn you west onto Crossways Park, West, then eventually onto the service road as it resumes going west.
As Papa Tom says, there are so many walled sections, that the "Wall" can mean many things to many groups.

Now I'm really curious to find out what "The Wall" is. Is it, by any chance, that incredible song on the "Leftoverture" album by the band, Kansas?

Hey, it's bugging me that, as we suspected when they built those things years ago, people are now associating Long Island with the damned WALLS!

I have heard east bound riders refer to the wall as the end of the service road at Woodbury Road - a turn around point for those who don't want to come up Woodbury and then Sunnyside to regain the Expressway.

The service road is nice on a early Sunday morning but otherwise it it not my first choice.

Agreed. But it does have good shoulders, plenty of riders, and a straight path back and forth with a couple of hills. I have been going through the Cold Spring Harbor lab - out the back and down into Oyster Bay. Well worth it to see the view of Cold Spring, the buildings, and the hill coming out of it in back. Great, quiet roads and great hills.

Howdy Eureka: What's your route around the Cold Spring Harbor Lab area? Some of those roads are marked Private. Do you ever get a hassle from the natives?

I come up the hill from CSH and go right in the front way. No one there to question or stop you. The first time I went in there were other cyclists there - luckily as they guided me out the back way. It is an impressive spot - gorgeous views of the harbor, interesting architecture, sculpture, and way to take a break from the rest of the hill on 25A. Of course you pay the price coming out the back, but it is a long, steep "driveway" of a road as compared to the busyness of 25A. And looking at the map there a number of ways to get up and over to Sagamore and then over to Oyster Bay. Definitely try it.

FYI I've never had a hassle either. Especially if you have a nice bike ;-)

Called Bungtown Road and it is fun going in and up that steep driveway
the descent down is a bit sketchy with many narrow twists and turns and cars coming up towards you
but if careful should be ok

I ride Wheatly Road, Muttontown Rd., and Syosset Woodbury Road. (When I go East).

When I go West, I do take the Long Island Expressway Service Road, starting at Roslyn, and there is a Wall where the L.I.E. crosses Roslyn Rd, but the Wall is between the Expressway proper and the Service Road.

The L.I.E. service road seems safe, but God forbid there is a traffic back-up on the Expressway, and the traffic detours around it by using the Service Road.

The first wall I'm familiar with is the same one DSchlichtin mentioned by Woodbury Rd. The 2nd wall is by Commack where the LIE runs into Sagitos.
