Seems like the local race rides have been a lot more handsy lately. Maybe it's just me. Either way, I think I prefer a hand on the hip to a yell.

I had to yell at a friend of mine after our Thursday night ride. Another friend was still yelling about the first guy on Saturday.

I've got nothing to add, but I have to finally post in the longest BF thread in history.

My contribution to the infamous "yelling" thread:
I got yelled at during a race last weekend. I bridge up to a two man break. Winded once I get there, I take a quick pull (about 20 - 30 seconds), peel off, and no one pulls after me. I try to rally one of the guys to take a pull, and he started *****ing and screaming and called me an idiot... Apparently, he thought I was the dude behind him sucking his wheel for the last two laps who was contributing NOTHING.

I love this thread because it chronicles my transition from idealistic noob to elitist roadie. It's fun.

It's a culture, like any other. They're just regular guys/gals who take their cycling seriously and don't like people who put them in danger. After paying my dues, training my *** off, and learning how to do it right, I got to a level where I could hang, and came to appreciate that my view of high-level racers as "elitist" said more about my own inferiority as a cyclist and the anxiety/insecurity that comes with that than it did about any attitude they had.
After several crashes that involved being immediately behind someone doing something stupid or being directly taken out by someone doing something stupid and having a $2700 frame trashed at a training race because some noob racer didn't know how to take a corner, self preservation kicked in for me and I quit racing. I can't afford to be out of work due to an injury, etc.
Going fast in a pack on a bike is dangerous, and if you haven't learned how to do it, you shouldn't try.

Has coddling tendencies.
I was once yelled at by a dopey beach bum type on a road bike on a SoCal beach path for riding too fast. He pulled alongside me and began to say something, which I couldn't hear because I had my earbuds in at the time. So I pulled them out to hear what he was saying. Hearing his dopey beach bum accent and unsolicited admonishing tone, I reinserted the buds and continued on. This caused him to start screaming and following me closely. If he didn't like how fast I was going before, he surely didn't like the pace I set to try and shake him.
Fearing I was in some sort of danger, I began to consider my options. A reasonable discussion was out of the question. I knew there was a police station another mile up ahead, so that was my goal, and to get there as fast as I could. In the meantime, if he tried to pull up beside me and run me off the path, I'd kick his front tire over and cause him to bite it. After nearly a mile of him screaming at me (not even the earbuds muffled him completely), I ended up losing him on a long incline.
Yell, but don't be that guy.
