anyone running bullhorns?

Thinking about trigger shifters and TT brakes.

bullhorns are very cool .... they are sometimes a little bulky when folded, but if you can get around that, its a real nice mod

My Speed Pro TT came with them. They give you most of the positions of a drop bar,but fold better. You'll want a stem that allows you to fold them. The early SPTT's had them,but mine requires me to carry a hex wrench to loosen the stem bolts.

Had a nose around and like the idea of bar end shifters, but only paul components do a reverse lever w/ clamp, and you'd have to sell a kidney to afford it.

going to go with some Nitto RB-018 with bar end shifters and

Dia-compe 139 levers.

Found out about them by chance googling, and they look the bees-knees.



The handles bars pictured are the Nitto RB-001

They drop 60mm, any advantage to using these in instead of the no drop ones I'm picking?

Does it help with your hand comfort when you have your hands closer to stem?

I'm running Soma Rando Bars (with the drops cut), with TRP levers, and a S&A 3 speed bar ends.



Works well and folds good too.

I just put Ergon Bar ends on,, with my Brompton M .. the GR5 prevents folding , without loosening the grips/bar ends bolts. so I got GR3's

Where are you going to have your hands most of the time? That's where you're going to want the brake levers. Lots of hipsters running bullhorns on their SS/FG with the brake levers on the tops(flat part by the stem) instead of the horns where they hold onto. Was a video over in the Commuting forum of a guy with that setup hitting a car that pulled out on him;he either freaked and locked up,or decided he couldn't get to the lever,because he didn't even try to get to his brake.

Not everyone likes the same thing. The shape of your bars and where you put your hands is based on personal preference.

BTW,what bike is this? Depending on your drivetrain,you might be able to get reasonably priced brifters. Shimano makes cheap 7spd brifters,and SunRace does reasonable 8 and 9spd;these are often rebranded for places like Performance Bikes. I personally prefer having my brakes and shifters integrated.

the brake levers let you have your hand by stem or to the side, beauty of em.

I'm going sram rival or force with bar end shifters and they setup on the handlebars in the pic i posted.

Just a little bit of advice on bull horns. Check to ensure the outside diameter of the tubing from which they are made is compatible with the clamp diameter of the levers you intend to use. The same applies to the internal diameter. I went through the process in fitting the bull horns to my new Bike Friday. I was aware of the diameter of the MTB shifter clamps, and then went hunting on eBay and other places to find them.

If you have MTB-sized shifter/brakes as I do (22.2mm diameter at the clamp) a company called Crow Cycle sells bullhorns that size (22.2 bar/25.4 stem clamp). This is what I used on my bike.

I sourced mine from Asia for $9, including postage. They work well, and are shaped nicely for me.

The major issue is not just the diameter of the tubing, but being able to get the clamp to follow around the bends without opening them up too far and stressing the alloy.

can you link me where you got your dia-compe levers from for $9, sounds like a bargin.

Here is a pic of the nitto 01 handlebars with the 60mm drop and the dia-compe lever combo. I really like the look.

I have MTB type-bar-ends on some shortened flat bars. Very bull-horn-like.
