Cycle touring is generally non-competitive and the prize is the trip itself. That said, so long as you're riding along anyway: Pass Hunting!

Pass hunting.....made me think immediately of this wonderful little film about an eccentric old French cyclist, made by probably a niece or great niece or something. He had been a big randonneuring guy in the 70s, and just kept on riding.
1,600,000kms in his legs, and seemingly a solitary fellow, as I said, eccentric seeming, in a crazy old uncle sort of way.

english subtitled version on Vimeo, about 50mins long. A nice film to watch that as we, fellow travellers and cyclists with a similar passion to him, we can relate to him in a certain way.

Oregon High Desert -- I was looking for a picture of Stinkingwater Pass, but only found a picture of the next pass to the east. I can't believe that we did not get a picture of Stinkingwater Pass We got a photo of the creek, but that does not count.
