Cable Housing Under Bottom Bracket?
The front derailleur cable and rear brake cable wrap under the bottom bracket on my bike. There is a balck a plastic piece that guide them (see photo). When I removed cap of the plastic piece to remove the cables, the wire has a thinner housing to protect the cables (see photo). This is MUCH thinner than normal cable housing. Does anyone know what this is called or what to buy to replace this? The existing housing is too worn to reuse. I see something from Jagwire called Slick LUBE Liner for Elite Shift/Brake on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/SLICK-LUBE-SH...s%2C360&sr=8-2
The derailleur cable kit I purchased only comes with regular cable housing. Nothing this thin. Thanks!

Yes, you need cable "liner" to replace that part. Any bike shop should be able to supply a short piece. An alternative is to replace the current cable guide with a Shimano or Campy guide as they need no liner to protect the cable. Again, any bike shop will have dozens of them.

You also may be able to remove the section of liner from a v-brake noodle. The photo actual looks like they used a noodle's liner looking at the flanged end

In the 80s when most good bikes had down tube shifters, the bare cables went under the BB on the plastic guide. There was no need for a housing. I never did see much wear.

I brought some Teflon tubing from eBay that covers most of cable length and since have not had any issues with shifting like I had prior.
Keeps cables clean of debris and energy drink from gumming up cables in BB guide.
