Just days after being offered the MTB carbon frame I posted earlier, today I came across this full bike. I got it for free and removed it from a yard before it was put in a dumpster.

What you have is a 1990 Nishiki Altron. This was Nishiki's top of the line model, though it was spec'd with Shimano 600 Ultegra, as opposed to Dura-ace, The Prestige tubeset is Tange's top of the line. It uses very thin, very high strength, heat treated steel. The frame was designed by Richard Cunningham. Nishiki hired World Champion Duathlete (though it was called Biahtlon back then) to promote the Altron line. This is arguably the last. and perhaps the best, of the high end Nishiki road bicycles. That's quite a find for $20.

Yes, it is a 1983, Canadian market, Olympic in the 19" frame size. It was 4th in a line of 6 adult, road models, and would be considered on the cusp of entry level and mid-range for the era. The frame is Tange #5, a plain gauge, chromium-molybdenum tubing. The pedals and saddles are replacements. The OEM brake lever hoods were removed, almost certainly to install the safety levers.

I have a Cervino with the serial number of 60 9844. Its a 60cm frame so I believe that is what the first part of the number is. From what I've read it's probably an Olmo manufactured frame. Not sure of the year but there is a thread about a 84 Cresna that is the same color and has the same decals.

I bought this recently from a guy in Amity, OR. I would guess that the parts are original with the possible exception of the freewheel.

The decals are faded and my picture is terrible so you can't see them. It's got a bamboo-style Nishiki logo decal with gold lettering.

There are two bike license stickers on the bike dating to 1974.

Based on the information in this thread, I'd guess it is a '73.

Gran Tour 15 serial KJ06962, can't find much info on the model. It's in rough condition and only some of it original, paint is a mess and the top tube has some dings but the frame is structurally sound. Came with a Sugino Maxy Tour triple which must be original and is still in good shape. It has a barely legible label stating double butted cromo tubing. A few details stand out such as vertical rear dropouts and the rear brake cable runs under the top tube. It has plenty of rack bosses but only one set of bottle cage bosses...

This must have been a very short lived model, as it's not in the 1978 or 1981 catalogues. The fraqme appears to the same as the 1981 Ultra Tour 15, which used Cyclone GT deraillers, Sugino Mighty Tour triple, Dia-Compe 500G sidepull brakes and Sunshine Gyro-master hubs laced to Araya 16A. If the triple crankset is OEM, then it would appear to have been Nishiki's first use of a triple and first true grand touring model.

Thanks T-Mar! Gran Tour has centerpull brakes (never realized how well they work) and a Mighty Tour Crankset (I mistakenly said it had Maxy). The rest of the drivetrain on this one wasn't stock so not sure what it came with.

Found this pic from a fleabay listing for an early 80s Nishiki Professional, interesting that it has the same headtube lugs as the Gran Tour.

It's a 1990's Derby era model and possibly even foreign market. Beyond that, we'd need the serial number, a good drive picture and close-ups of the major components.

Not reall the same, the Grand Tour lugs are a crude copy. Similar to some Nishikis that have crude copies of Nervex lugs.

Under close examination the top of the top headtube lug has a raised feature that would indicate a sloppy mold/less precise process? The bottom of the bottom headtube lug has one too. Really in the weeds now :-)

Yes, definitely a 1986 manufactured in late 1985, as the 1985 models used a different logo.

I have a Nishiki Century and I'm trying to figure out what year it is cause I want to fix it up so I can ride it again. I can't figure out how to post any of the pictures I have from off my phone. There is a sticker on it labeled Action Wheels with an address and the number 68-5115. The other stickers on it: 1020 HI Tensile Steel Fork , and 4130 CR-MO Seat Tube. Can anyone help me with this please.

The Century was an entry level model, circa 1982-1984. The samples in my database were all manufasctured by Giant. Consequently, there should be an open format date code on the rear dropout that will tell you the exact build date of your frame.

You'll get more answers if you post in the C&V Appraisals and Inquires forum. Also, include a good overall picture taken from the drive side and detail pictures of the major components (brakes, crankset, derailleurs) the tubing label and serial number. That Nishiki logo is not very common.
