Dry spell over finally. Flipper Fuji picked up for the right price Indexed thumb shifters are hung. It is going to make me disassemble them. I cant get the left one to free up with PBblaster and brake cleaner. Other then that it is in decent shape and shouldn't need much. This will be marketed as a Coed campus bike. I guess I'll leave the rack on it to make it more appealing.


I finally chased after this Lotus Prestige that has been for sale for ever and had my eye. It my size and I bought this for me and paid a little more for it. Still a flippable price but not much profit if I did.
I am fairly confident that the lugs are made by Miyata and that is part of my attraction to the bike. Other the the top of the seat stay where it says Lotus they are identical to the ones on my old six ten. Spent about 45 minutes messing with it and got it in enough shape to take it for a spin. Rode decent.

Little bit intrigued by it. The Suntour bits date to mid 83 leading me to believe it is a 84 model . It is made with Double Butted Tange Mangalloy that I would consider for most brands to be little below midline. Suntour ARX Gran Star 400 brakes keep it in the middle.

Now what throws me is the Ukai 700c Wheels. At first I thought somebody swapped them but the brakes are not long reach and they are adjusted almost all the way up. If the bike came with 27's I would expect them to have been nearly all the way down so this bike was designed for the 700's. When it was built 700's tended to be the upper end bikes not mid line. So little info to be found on the brand that I really am at a loss as to where this bike was in the hierarchy.

Ive been holding onto this early 70s Peugeot, I think its only an a-08 but I still like the lug work and Im too broke to get a new frame.

If anyone can give me a definite answer on the frame model Id love to hear it. Im pretty sure its bottom rung due to the lack of chromed forks or anything on the rear triangle.

also a good source for a head set/bottom bracket would be awesome, I want to get this thing on the road.

yes, indeed a nice looking bike, auchen. i've been riding an Echelon i picked up last fall, and am very satisfied with it. i really like the red into brown, maroon fade on yours. yours looks about the same size as mine, too, a 62cm. one thing i've noticed on mine is toe interference with the front wheel; do you find the same thing? it is a deceptively rigid and upright frame.

Hi shrinkboy - and thanks. I have to agree with you - it has a deceivingly racy, upright geometry: -and yes, I am always wary of the possibility of toe interference on such bikes. Nevertheless, the Dawes has a ride that seems superior - much less "ginchy" than one would expect on such a machine.

I believe your Echelon is virtually identical to my red Atlantis except for the 531 front forks and a few cosmetics. I would be interested to know if it looks like the catalog photo.

Well, I picked up five projects today, really rough projects, off C/L. I really wanted the Fuji, the rest of them came as a package. Not sure what I am going to do with the Gazelle. It has stainless rims and rod brakes, and needs lots of work. The Schwinn World Sport has a severely taco'd rear wheel, but I should be able to pull something off the shelf. Incredibly to me, none of the seat posts were stuck. Of course, only one was alloy.

Got to "love" the cabling routing on the Fuji. Catch the aero lever on the front brake. It also has a Shimano 105 RD (I have a Cyclone on the shelf)....

Picked up this 1973 Columbia for a friend who needed a shortish bike with upright bars. Still has original tires on it. Has some chintzy steel brakes instead of the typical weinmanns, but they work well enough so no big deal.

Throw a pair of Weinmann or Dia-Compe alloy side-pulls on for him...give him the old ones to hold onto for posterity. Will look alot sharper! Otherwise...

Found an early Dahon Classic III. It has 1986 on the SA hub. Definitely needs some TLC. Also included the manual and a working Radio Shack AM-FM Horn combo.

I have never heard of Peerless folding bikes, but this one was the right price. Very light and appears to be well made. 24" wheels.

Not a super great catch, but did pick up two GT MTBs at my favorite thrift store today. That makes seven bikes in the last two days, and I have one more to pick up this evening. I usually avoid MTBs unless they are garage sale or thrift store finds.

Those GT MTB's can be a great catch - depending of course what you paid for them. I too usually avoid MTBs, but I picked up an Outpost men's model in dark blue recently : It was a VERY good deal for a bike with that double triangle frame in 4130 Cro Mo, and really decent fodder for a commuter bike, IMO.

Waddya mean, "not sure"? Many of us would give our left nut for that bike! (Which in my case, is my favorite one!) The chrome should clean up good with lemon juice and aluminum foil. Looks like a great opportunity to learn about rod brakes. Does it take 28" tires? I bought some from Flying Pigeon LA but it looks like they are only selling bikes and not parts anymore (you could try to email them to see for sure... their prices were reasonable).

Just pulled a Raleigh Super Course from the scrap pile here at the co-op... figure someone might like a well made 25 inch vintage frame and Carlton fork with no real defects but one that is need of a repaint.

Don't think I have ever seen such slack angles on any bike and it would look good hanging above the entrance to someone's shop... would be even nicer if it was brought back to working condition.

One may find the steel brakes work a great deal better than the Weinmann alloy ones.

With that laid back stance, it looks like it should have a banana seat, sissy bar, and ape hangers on it. The tricky part would be getting the rod brakes to work with ape hangers.

Of course it would have to be a Brookes banana seat to keep the period look to the bike.
