Brake bridge sleeve

I'm trying to re-animate a Raleigh Super Course frame I bought. Tried mounting the rear brake caliper, and the bolt wouldn't go through the hole in the bridge. Then I saw that the tube, or ferrule, or whatever, through the bridge is not brazed to the bridge, but loose. And the end near the seat tube is crimped. Is the looseness of this tube an acceptable thing? I've got several other bikes -- 3 are Raleighs and one is Carlton-made, and I don't recall ever seeing the tube through the brake bridge not brazed solid. Is it going to work like this -- will the rear brake be jittery?

Pics please. Off hand, I would say that will not be a stable area to clamp your rear brake to.

Pictures from both sides of the bridge. The tube just moves a little bit. Is the clamping to the bridge itself enough to make the caliper's mount solid?

The rear brake has concave washers -- so I guess the clamping to the bridge itself is enough, then? The motion in the through tube won't be an issue?

Yeah, it's fine. Just make sure the mounting bolt is tight to hold it in place.

Thanks. The more I look at it, I believe it'll be okay as is. Just never seen one loose like that before. Have to round out that back side to get the brake bolt through.

you can see evidence of concave washers in the paint. When that bike was made, that's how brakes were held on. Most bikes didn't have a sleeve in the hole.

I currently have 2 of these Super Course frames in my garage that are identical to your, same color even, and I too noticed the back side of the sleeve through the brake bridge is a fuzz smaller than the bolt, I put a smaller drill bit through it and spun it with a drill while moving the drill in a circular motion and the brake bolt drops right through now.

My recently acquired Competition G. S. Had the same issue. I filed the crimped end nearest the seat tube so that a curved washer could cinch up against the bridge and my brakes are tight now.

I see the problem now. No problem with the brake being loose when tightened. Concur with the shaped washer +10
