980-C Cadex

Greetings, i have a question about this little 980-C i recently picked up, hoping some one may know a bit more @ it. What's kinda strange is the grouping, haven't seen it on these, it has rsx, tripple ring Sugino, rd5000. The same exact group as the later trek 420. The serial number seems odd also. #GM000021
I like the grouping, gives it a wider range.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
James

Your frame was built during weeks 25-26 of 1990. That's a bit early to be a 1991 but I wouldn't rule it out. They may have been building frames to stock, as the carbon frames took longer to build. The 980C was spec'd with Shimano 105SC in both 1990 and 1991, at least in the USA. Shimano RSX wasn't released until the 1995 model year, so it's an obvious rebuild or maybe built from a NOS frameset.

Bike is almost 30 years old, plenty of time for someone to change groups on it. I harvested a 105 group from a 980C years ago myself. It lives again with some other group now.

Hey thanks much!
i thought that may be the case, has a cosmos swap out also. All in all i really like the ride, it isn't as stiff as i thought it would be, those 1200 & 420's beat this 62 year old up!!

Yup, 105SC is what I find on them. Nice bikes. The earlier ones look best, IMO. I have one of my own, and recently sold a smaller one to a coworker. For want of a picture in this thread, this is the latter:
