Extended range Chorus cassette
I'm considering putting on a newer HO model Chorus RD (11s) midcage which has 32-rear capability. since there is no such thing as a Chorus 11s cassette with 32 tooth large cog, is there anything I could accomplish by frankensteining a Chorus 12-29 cassette (which I have) with a Potenza 11-32 cassette to get a 12-32 cassette?
I'm not sure which comes with which triplets vs. single cogs?

Good idea as well. I guess what I'm wondering, is what is the difference in materials or weight or quality between Chorus, Potenza or Centaur for that matter. If I already own a pretty fresh 12-XX Chorus cassette, is it a better idea to use the big cog end of a cheaper cassette to complete?

The 8-9 sprockets must match. Campy has letters assigned to them. If they aren't the same on both cassettes, the shifting will suck.

The differences will be minor and of no practical consequences. The more expensive cassettes will be a bit lighter due to the larger cogs being joined on a common spider and the most expensive like Record having a some Ti cogs. Otherwise is mostly a shinier finish and higher cost. I've used both Chorus and Veloce 10-speed cassettes and saw no difference in either longevity or shift quality between them.

Thanks all. It is interesting to note the cost difference between Centaur and Potenza, with a Potenza 11-32 cassette about double the cost of a Centaur. Can it be expected that Centaur is going to be much more prone to rusting? At least for potenza I find reference to nickel-chrome finishing that is absent in Centaur descriptions.

Never had an issue with any Campy cassette.

FWIW, I did a bit of digging into the spare parts catalog from Campy. The 11-29 cassette for both Chorus and Centaur, for the largest cog triplet on both (23/26/29) have the same exact specified part number listed (11S-369). So, I'm guessing I could purchase the Centaur 12-32 cassette, and marry its largest triplet (25/28/32) with my existing (pretty new) Chorus cassette. The downside is a larger gap than I'd have just using the full Centaur cassette as I would have a jump from 21 to 25, whereas Centaur has a 22 as the cog following the 19-tooth.
Anyway, if there are material/finishing differences, it must be in the smaller cogs between Chorus and Centaur.
