find the measurement chart that giro and all helmet sites have.

although all helmets are the same, but one that looks cool because you'll be more likely to wear it. an expensive worn helmet is much better than a cheap helmet you don't like because you feel self conscious in it.

for that reason i suggest trying them on in person. also different brands are shaped differently, like giros fit me but bells are a no go. I personally got a rudy project helmet, but I got an screaming deal on it.

just wondering. Is there a big different between $30 helmets and $200 helmets? Essentially, they are all foam with a hard shell right?
I want to say ventilation and aerodynamic shape but that doesn't really justify the extra 150 (at least for me coz i'm not riding professionally)

Generally the most expensive helmets are made to be very light. If you're going to be spending $200 on a helmet, you're going to be doing the kind of cycling where differences in grams count. In terms of safety, however, a helmet is a helmet.

LupinIII has a good point, the most important thing about any helmet is the fact that you're going to wear it. But my ideology is more along the lines of "HTFU and wear the ugly helmet."

all helmets sold in the US have to conform to the same safety standard. a $30 dollar bell from walmart is just as safe as a $200 giro ionos.

yeah, we all should HTFU and wear our cheap ugly helmets. but I can't say I follow that haha. I'll more more likely to say "**** it, it's a short ride" if the helmet looks like it belongs to a recumbent rider

have fun with no ventilation though brah. not gonna lie, the assload of vents you get with the more expensive helmets are very nice and make it much more comfortable

I tried a bunch before I found that the Giro Indicator fit my head without discomfort or any hot spots.

I have a Bern. The ventilation sucks. But it's great during the winter for commutes
I need to look into a cheaper Giro or Bell for the summer.

those burns are sweet but only for short/cool rides. dont try to wear it in august you'll sweat to death

I got a Giro Transfer from REI for $30. Not too heavy, good ventilation, and fits me perfectly.

Yeah, I was thinking the Indicator or Havoc. They only have small helmets for that price.. I run somewhere in the medium and large range, could I squeeze into it? take out a couple pads maybe?

Most, if not all, helmets come with smaller and larger extra pads.

Seriously, dude. Just go to a local shop and try some on. Giro is in just about every shop, Performance, REI, etc...

Yeah, and if you're a member of REI's co-op, you can buy a helmet, then return it if you ever wreck it (which I hope you don't). Or you can just return it when you get tired of it. They have the best return policy ever.

i'm sure someone already said it, but what helmet is right for you, may not be right for the next person. for me, a bell volt fits me a lot better than a giro atmos, though both are the same size. as the price goes up, the ventilation improves, weight drops, and looks generally improve (for most people, regardless of what they say, its about appearance). I always wear a helmet, but i prefer wearing one that doesn't make me look too "special"

I use a Havoc for mountain biking and it is perfect. You can't make a helmet that is too small fit. Also if going to a shop to find out your size, try to size the same type/brand of helmet that you are buying online.

Weight and ventilation are the two main differences, fit is another for some. The more expensive helmets have a better fit adjustment. Ventilation important in the summer, particularly on long rides.

I'd buy what fits and what you can afford but go ahead and try on the more expensive helmets to see the difference for yourself.

I have a Trek Vapor that I just bought. I like it but I've only used it once because I haven't had it long and I don't really want to wear my helmet on my 1 mile ride to campus an then leave it locked up or carry it around all day.
