OH, there's a blue Uni up too. Looks like a swaged crank which is a huge turnoff for me, esp. for $150. Short looking ETT and risers is going to make that a very upright ride, which may be preferable for rides less than 10 miles but would be terrible (for me) for longer rides.
Are those 24" wheels? That bike might be a tad small for 5'4" if they are.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR INPUT! Definitely saved me multiple times on buying the wrong bike! I have my eyes glued to the Chrome Univega, but the owner is not sure of the frame size and is out of town till tuesday. I'll check it out then!

You are expecting too much from the owner as to sizing. Ask fewer questions, and just make arrangements to see it instead. Google how to measure bike sizing, and take a tape measure with you. Realize potential buyers that ask a lot of questions get put on the bottom of the list, while buyers easiest to deal with get priority. There is no "dibs" on Craigs List.

Index shifting is when the shift lever will move one "click" at a time when changing gears. Friction shifting is where you simply push or pull the shifter slightly until it changes gear. It takes some getting used to but after about 2-3 miles you'll have the hang of it no problem.

. So put it back up on Craigslist as soon as I got home and found a Trek 7.3 fx for 150$ in excellent condition, couldn't pass it up. Currently I have both bikes and waiting to get the uni sold. I know, waaay over my budget buying 2 bikes but I did it having high hopes I'll easily get my money back from the Uni by reselling it.

That seems like a good buy on the trek also. Hard to say without pics of course and its aluminum and not vintage and not chrome so you lose cool points...sorry. Any chance of some pics of that Uni? Drive side close ups and maybe a cockpit pic (shifters and bars)

By the way, as far as tubes and tires go, you can get them much cheaper online and should know or learn how to put them on yourself. I know that doesn't help with the tune up but I might suggest a second quote on that. You could obviously learn to do that also but I understand some people just don't want to. You obviously don't NEED two bikes (I don't NEED 12 either) so selling one makes sense but I think you could make enough profit on the Trek to pay for the Uni tune up or make a little on the Uni to buy a GOOD lock to keep the Trek around.

That's a nice Trek. It should be the easiest to get into satisfactory riding condition. The Uni seems very cool so if you have space and budget you could just set it aside until you learn more about bikes and are able to make your own assessment of what it really needs....

I'd so keep the Uni - biplane fork and all this chrome! But I'd keep it only because I can refurbish it myself and have parts to do it. Sadly Trek makes more sense for OP to keep as a rider

That's a nice score on that Trek. But that Uni is sooooo cool. I am not really up on my fitness bike prices but I believe that's a $250 bike pretty easily probably $300. I agree that the Trek is likely better transportation.

that chome univega is cool but ladies frame will drive down desirability as fewer people are looking for ladies vintage mtb. parts probably worth more than the whole. not sure how much you paid but if everything works i'd say like 150 is the maximum you could expect to sell it for in the bay area, probably less. Cleaned up maybe a little more, but not much more.
also, if you are still trying to sell the bike, fix the saddle. it will make the bike easier to sell
