Whats your favorite song to listen to when Cycling?
Whats your favorite song to listen to when Cycling?
We have a very long bike trail that i like to ride..
Its safe and a closed course so its safe to listen to the Ipod..
I like to listen to my 80's biking playlist..
but my top 4 favorites are:
Queen: Bicycle Race
a-ha: Take On Me
Duran Duran: Hungry Like The Wolf
wall of voodoo: Mexican radio
We have a very long bike trail that i like to ride..

Whatever's on the radio. I stream stations using the Tunein app, and can get just about any station worldwide (including police/fire/rescue, ATC, etc.... )

I prefer to forego music and listen to what's around me. Not a safety thing; just personal preference.

I never listen while cycling. Part of it is wanting the awareness of situations around me. I think my real strong reason is that I want to listen to nature and hopefully the peaceful environment. We are bombarded by sounds, technology and media all day, I find it is a great time to be away from it all and clear my head.

I didn't listen to anything for 49 years. I found that no matter what kind of earpiece I used music prevented me from hearing traffic. Two years ago I read about a guy who would listen to spoken word only with one earbud, curbside. I tried it and that works for me. So it's podcasts and interviews. Books on tape, er, audio books, take too much concentration to enjoy. And in the car, I find the older I get, the less I care to listen to music. If they had the internet when I was growing up, I don't think I would have listened to as much music as I did.

"Sounds of silence". I would rather be able to hear the cars and trucks that may be approaching from all directions. I like staying alive and with all of my bones unbroken. I have never put on a set of ear buds and then gone for a ride.

In all seriousness though, I'm constantly making a mental map of the sounds around me while I ride so I can keep track of traffic. My eyes can only survey one area at a time, but my ears can hear everything. I would feel extremely vulnerable not being able to make use of that. Of course on a relatively safe MUP it would be different, but that's a minority of my miles.
EDIT: As far as how I respond; if I hear something "threatening" I turn and look at what I heard. If it really is dangerous I'll take evasive action, which could be anything: quick lane change left, quick right into an alley or side street, who knows... it depends on the situation.

Ha! I read Birds but thought Byrds earlier. I also enjoy the sounds of nature, and the neighborhood, and hearing a neighbors greetings, or even a strangers greetings, and activities in the parks, and the aroma of cookouts in the park etc. For me part of the passion for cycling is the intimate connection to your surroundings.
