You've beat me! February for me has been about 50 hours inside and maybe 5-6 hours outside! I'm literally going crazy with 3-4 hour rides on the weekend! Determined to get out this weekend. It will almost be 30 degrees!

For many alcoholics, a beer 3 or 4 nights a week would be defined as "I'm not drinking right now." In my experience.

I wonder how much it would help my cycling if I only had 3-4 drinks per week.

I probably average around 10-12 drinks per week, and thats including 2-3 nights/week with no drinking.
But hey, I'm a young buck with energy to spare. I actually drink (very slightly) more than I would like, but it's hard sometimes when I'm such a social person and I'm surrounded by co-workers, family members and a girlfriend that drinks at least as much as I do.
Tuesday nights are always a pickle for me, as I usually play music with a big tenorman that drinks like a fish, and Wednesdays are important training days for me. I usually cap it off at 2 drinks. Next week is a rest week, so I'll let myself get a little more saucy on Tuesday jam night if I want to
On weeks when we don't play (happens occasionally), I'll have nothing to drink on Tuesdays.

There was a time like 5 years ago when a 6 pack a night seemed fairly reasonable. Nowadays I have like 2-3/month and since it's so infrequent it's always like Scotch/Sazerac/something Belgian.
Anyway, yea. No desire to go back to where I was, though the partying was crazy fun.

My military days I drank a lot. I lived off base with another Marine who was going through a divorce and we partied, sometimes forced to. Since we were the only two people in our platoon that lived off base, it was a weekly occasion where someone in our battalion would knock on our door at midnight with 3-4 girls claiming it was his house....of course we went along with the lie.
Now that I'm settled down I rarely drink, its just not my thing.

I like to be able to enjoy drinking, which means decent wine or scotch/whiskey usually. Training is usually a good excuse not to, though I have been buying bottles of wine that I want to drink but won't open them for one glass. I may need a cellar.

When I have a drink in a non-party/social situation (which isn't so frequent), I prefer scotch/whiskey myself, or cognac, with a couple ice cubes. sometimes neat.

**** the local bar by me is closing so i had to go just now to it, and what was supposed to be 1-2 beers turned into 5 beers and 3 shots. Also, 30-40 year old women who are there from happy hour was thirsty beyond belief.

I dropped my bike at the shop tonight and walked by a homeless guy who said good morning.
edit: this was supposed to be in the new RTT

First ride in a few days because sick. Somehow I zeroed out my SRM between the basement and upstairs.
If I don't go to Vegas or SoCal then I have maybe 5-10 drinks a year. In SoCal or in Vegas (if Interbike I'm hanging out with the SoCal hosts, if post-tax season then the Missus and her friends are with me) I get to be in a special situation where I can drink somewhat irresponsibly without any significant consequences. I might double my annual drink count in a week.

February has been a bit of a disaster with weather and stress and whatever, but back on the horse. Starting to really throw in some threshold work.
Everyone is in the same boat to a lesser or greater extent. Ride to Wells Ave on Sundays, do Marblehead at the end of March, ride to Myles Standish in April. Get your ass kicked six ways into next week, keep riding and you'll be fine. It's just racing, and none of the really major ones are until at least May, unless you're planning on Battenkill or something. I'm going to have a road season focused mostly on training, probably, because I'll be busy with house stuff most of the summer, and I'll be looking to be sharpest in the fall. So I'm trying not to freak out. That's probably not your situation, but it's still a long season so who cares? Do the training races and everything, and maybe care about being wicked fast when the big summer crits come along, like Fitchburg and Exeter and all that stuff.
i can't believe racing around here starts in 2 weeks. i haven't ridden outside in 2 months and am in probably the worst shape i've ever been in since I started racing. i'll almost certainly be delaying the start of my race season from what i expected. i really need to take a look at bikereg and start planning stuff...

^I know, I know. Honestly I think it's just the fact that I'm not racing collegiate that's got me feeling "off." Normally Grant's Tomb is right in the heart of the first half of my season whereas this year I'm thinking "maybe too early to start racing."
