My new* doctor told me yesterday that I was due for DPT at my next 6 month appointment. Considering my accident-proneness, I keep my DPT up to date. Fun fact, my great grandfather died of tetanus.

There is a subset of people who seem to believe the worst despite the evidence.

I'm also 6'. Apparently at that height you're considered "overweight" unless you're below 185. I haven't seen 185 since college.

As I posted above, I think it’s that people don’t weight risks consistently. We vastly over-weight low probability-high consequence events if they seem to be targeted at us as individuals, and ignore huge, impersonal threats like automobile disease. This kind of thing is the basis of behavioral economics and we need to employ lots of those folks to help us understand and supply the incentives and nudges required to get people to change their behavior, I think yelling, shaming, and attempts to “educate” with facts only push them further into irrationality.
