Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

new Ribble bikes introduced

following their popular value-positioned R872, Ribble is introducing a Superlight SL model generally styled after the Cervelo R of the world: pencil seat stays, straight fork, no wild pseudo-aero shaping, no dali'esque dripped tubes....

and great muted livery that doesnt shout its brand name 50 times over

840g frame (for medium?), guesstimating 400g for fork

if youre not into proprietary marketing branded gimmicks or dont want to bother building up your own aliexpress frame, this is a good option. orders should open mid october.

That's very competitive. Takes the likes of Workswell or even lighter, puts a decal on it and gives it legitimacy. Actually this is what many folks have been waiting for.

I bet the fork is no more than 350g. 400 is very heavy these days.

Did they borrow the SLR-0 wheels from Giant or just the decal design?

I was on the Ribble builder website a couple days ago, and I noticed they greatly reduced the amount of money to upgrade the wheels. When I checked a couple months you had to pay almost retail to upgrade to the wheel you wanted, but at the same time you could just buy the wheel set of your choice on their website for about half the price (at least in the case of Shimano RS81 wheels). Now the price of the wheels they take off the bike and the amount they charge on their site for the wheels you want seem to be taken into account. It's very attractive, except I would be worried about getting hit with import duties.

Since it looks a lot like my Workswell .. it looks pretty good. Ribble just stepped up its game ...

But folks think it through. Where is Ribble getting its frames?

I'd bet from Flyxii or whatever is the name of the factory that builds frames for most of the Chinese retailers. I ma pretty certain Ribble did not invest in its own CF frame-building facility.

Other than Giant very few, if any, name brand manufatuers own their own factories. Just like Apple manages without owning factories, bike companies outsource to contract manufacturers.

My bad it's called the Ultimate , not super light. They're also fitting disc brakes in their aero model but kinda ugly

Those seat stays ...

I'm sure some Ph.D. In engineering verified it was structurally sound, but what is the reasoning behind those thin seat stays? Looks like they could snap if a bigger due sat on the bike.

They make the bottom bracket area very strong so it takes all the load. Cervelo used to say they could build the R3 without any seat stays.

The seat stays on my Workswell are about that size and I weigh about as much as a small car ... no issue. The BB are is about as big as a grapefruit.

I saw one of their R872 bikes at an organized ride earlier this year and it's a beautiful bike. It looks a lot like my Workswell 066.
I'd be very interested to know where they are getting their frames from.

How much does it matter? If Ribble, an established and respected entity, is happy enough with the QC to stand behind the product and support the customers that purchase it, that's about all that most people are looking for (well, that and someone to point a lawsuit at if things go catastrophically wrong).

Dude ... I OWN a bike from one of those factories. I stated that clearly in my first post. So obviously, I am already satisfied with the quality of these bikes.

What does it matter, you ask? It is a simple matter of Fact. Any further meaning you give it (as in, for some reason the bike is not good enough because it is produced by one of the major Chinese factories) is all Your interpretation.

On the other hand ... If people don't think it through and think that somehow Ribble is making these bikes ... why should pointing out a simple fact be an issue? And wouldn't people Want that information?

People who are prejudiced against "asploding Chinese carbon" probably would want to know where the frames come from. People who are smart enough to reason things through the way you did, will still not mind knowing where the frames come from.

So my question to you is"What is the matter .... with me pointing out that simple fact.

Anyone know why.....

Why does the Ribble bike builder not let you pick Zipp 404s even though they are in stock in their regular store? Ditto for Red 22 Etap?

Why does the CX bike builder only allow Shimano groups, and no SRAM?

Very good looking bike right there. Does look a lot like my Workswell as others have stated.

More taper from front to back in the top tube. Or flattening.

Whoa - tilt at windmills much? If you're inferring an adversarial tone in my rhetorical question and continuation of your thought, you should step away from the keyboard for a bit.

Now, that is a top notch parody and good quality humor there!

I'm just asking, since I don't know. When matching a kit to a black bike, do you go with a black kit, one with lots of color, or does anything match?

If it's black, wear anything. If it's black with splash of color (like the orange in the bike in the OP), either match color or refer to the complementary color on the color wheel.
