Experienced eyes only.
Hello there.
So the lady next door to us was clearing out her sheds. At the back of one shed I spy a little gem. Its got a certain stance and looks like in its day it was a nice bike.
That's where my problems start. I've no idea as to what make it is. I've come close but cannot be 100% sure.
Its got...
Campagnolo Omega 19 wheels.
Campagnolo Shifters
Cinelli handlebars and stem
Concuor supercorsa seat
Campagnolo hubs
Its got this strange dimpled design on the bottom bracket which I Cant identify.
So I think I've got something quite good. Or... Something that's trying to be something good
I would like to restore her back to original if I can, so any help like names of specific components would also be great.
I read lots of c-record and b-record etc...but have no idea what I have got
Any help would be very welcomed.
Thank you in advance and sorry if I'm being vague.

Like a golf ball, the dimples improve the stability at high speed.

Not sure about the star. The heart lug was popular at Mercian. Find any numbers anywhere?

The six pointed star on the BB is the same configuration as the star Malvern used. Although, on most M. Stars, the star pattern is displayed on the fork crown, lugs or headtube so that's kida odd. The dimpled BB is interesting. If it was indeed drillium of sorts, I'd think the frame would be light to start. What does the frame weigh? What size seat post does it take?
I think it's really cool, would fix it up and ride the beans out of it!

I think it's a Cinelli "MR" model crown.
The major bits of the bike look pretty generic (but high quality generic), common lugs, bridges and braces, braze-ons, etc. The semi-wrap semi-fastback stay caps are a bit unusual, but the really striking thing is the 'dimpling' on the BB shell (never seen that before) and the holes in the headlugs.
Unique, but could easily have been done aftermarket, so might not be associated with the builder.
Does there seem to be something cast into the BB shell (underneath all that dimpling?
What's the seatpost size?
Checked for 'rifling' in the steerer base?
What BB threading?

I noticed the lower head lug is also dimpled. Anything else?
The shifters etc look to be from the 70s. Campy Record components signal a high quality frame no matter what.

Very cool score for sure. Did you take any photos of the rear derailer and rear dropouts?
Looks fast standing still. If it's your size, fix it up and ride it.

Wow
Wow you guys know your stuff, thanks for all your replies.
The seat tube is 27mm (inside dimensions)?
The holes on the front tube are the same dimpling detail as on the BB and I wouldn't say they were aftermarket?
There is nothing under the BB the dimpling is in the actual shell itself.
I'm sorry but I don't know what rifling is?
There's dimpling on the top of that front tubeand around the outside of the thread of the BB but nowhere else.
The front crank, brake levers and rear mech were Shimano but they would of been aftermarket?
that malvern star looks very similar doesn't it?
I have some other photos incase they help
Thanks everyone

It's Red, does it have to have a Brand Name? ...
In that sort of Era the Frames were often shipped painted nicely, but expected thr Retail Shop to clean up the threads
and tap and face the BB , and do the same finish work on the head tube and fork and all that, with their tool set,
not the builder's.
Then the components were the customer's choice,
or the shop made the choices from what they may have had sitting around..
Once you overhaul it and put it back on the road, Enjoy the ride

Well, the lugs were drilled prior to brazing them to the headtube my thoughts are the same as those who are thinking "drillium days" here. I would bet that's the same idea with the BB shell. The seat stay/seat tube lug makes me think it could be a British builder.
27.0 seat post would also indicate a higher end tubeset. The above shell cable routing and Galli brakes, my guess....somewhere around the 70's. The brake bridge and seat stay bridge are also brazed in nicely, with the re-enforcing tabs also indicating a higher end build.
Are the brakes set up with recessed nuts, or a standard locking nut? It's hard to tell from the pics.
Very cool find though!!! Love those kinds of stories.....ride it!!!

The treatment of the stay ends is very distinctive, but I can't say I've ever seen it before. I'll bet those will help with a positive ID when someone recognizes it. The closeup of the drilling on the head lugs shows that the holes were drilled before the frame was brazed (and it looks like it was pretty well done too!)
Out of curiosity, is the discoloration under the bottom bracket rust and missing paint, or just encrusted mud?

What a cool bike to find!! Very unique!
Was it common to have brazed on brake cable guides in the seventies?

It even has the dimpling on the top of the BB shell! the ends of the seat and chain stays have an interesting treatment. That is a wicked frame!

Amazing, but true...
The seatstays finish is a style malvern used
the bb shell star is as Malverny as stars come
the stay ends at the dropout are styled after the lugging on lower end malverns...
hmmm... Might be a good case for the folks on BNA

I'm swayed by otto rax's info:
I'll vote "Malvern Star", even though I've never seen any examples from this era (time of Campy 1010B dropouts and Cinelli MR investment-cast crowns).
If it is one, it's a very restrained-looking Malvern Star, except for that "goofy golf ball" effect.
27.0 seatpost? Would MS have used Columbus SP tubing, or more likely Tange or Ishiwata?
