How excited is everyone for daylight saving time?
How excited is everyone here for daylight savings time? My commute is down right dangerous on some dark mornings if it’s been windy or raining. Lots of downed limbs and debris that litter the trail or get tossed into the bike lanes and shoulders. Should be interesting. I’ve never commuted on a road bike before, where my mountain and BMX bikes could soak that stuff up. Fortunately I picked up a nicer headlight recently! 5am commutes should get that much more interesting this time of year.

DST should be abolished. It's just a useless tradition which has no purpose. ..All it does is disrupt peoples circadian rhythm and mess up their sleeping patterns.

When I bike commuted I distinctly remember being a little sad not to ride in the dark anymore. I invested so much time effort and money into dark visibility but also cuz it was fun!

Last autumn, when I stayed overnight at my job at a suburban site, I tried some very early morning riding and had the same problem about oncoming car lights.
In the city there is enough ambient light to keep my pupils constricted, but on the very dark suburban/exurban roads I become very dark-adapted and oncoming lights are blinding. But I too enjoy that sensation that everything is mine, and I’m in my own world. I calI it “cocooning.”

I spent the last two months toiling in the dark at 6AM. Just recently it's been light out for the last half hour of my commute, which feels great. Now I gotta go back to the dark ages!
Not excited at all. But looking forward to what it means it terms of the weather.

I have hated the periodic time change for decades. I go through a weeks-long period of feeling messed up with every change. In the Fall of 2017, I decided to modify my work schedule to split the difference, offsetting my schedule by only 30 minutes, reverting back 30 minutes the following Spring. I have to say that it worked rather well; however I would prefer that we just pick standard or daylight time and stick with it all year long. Is anyone euphoric about the time change? I expect that it is more tolerated than appreciated.
My biggest commuting issue with the time change was having to endure the twilight periods twice as much. During these period of low light, as many as one third of local motorists would not run lights on their vehicles making them very difficult to see. Moreover, the lights of prudent motorists would "hide" these stealth runners making it almost impossible to gauge traffic while riding. Definitely scary. Having made it through that sketchy period once, only having to go through it once more when the time changed was discouraging.

I personally have a mixed feeling but am mostly positive to Daylight Savings. The hour early shocks my system. I have been trying to acclimate to the expected time change for about two weeks now.
But I LOVE the extra day light right out the door in the PM. It means to me that the chances of surviving my commute go up, up, up. Plus it means I can do more exercise (run, go to the gym) and still finish before it gets dark
It does get darker in the AM, at least at the outset. But it does eventually get brighter out in the am.
So partly it's an appreciation of extra day light in the PM, and partly it's a huge "milestone" that is also a harbinger of spring

Bleh. I hate DST. It messes up my sleep cycle, and I prefer the dark morning commute as my times square lighting/reflector setup is much more visible in the dark. I'm happy for spring, because I'm tired of being cold, but we really should just make up our minds about this clock changing business one way or the other and leave it that way.

That said, I do prefer DST over Standard. In Standard time I end up riding in evening twilight, and I prefer either light or dark.

DST is the best thing ever invented. I love changing back and forth. I love not being a grump who complains about this twice a year. It's hardly different than changing time zones on an airplane trip.

I hate it. And it will make the morning commute less safe. Right now I am just getting a glimpse of the predawn light. It will go back to dark once the time changes. I work 7-3:30 so am leaving the house at 6:15. I really have to question any real “savings”.

i love it so much i wish chicago would just stay on it year round and ditch central standard time altogether.
full disclosure: my work schedule is such that i leave home at 7:50am every morning, so i always have plenty of daylight for the ride in, even on the winter solstice.
it's at the end of my workday (5:30pm) where i really appreciate the extra daylight that the DST switch brings.
i love it so much i wish chicago would just stay on it year round and ditch central standard time altogether.
