Cane Creek IS2 / Fork Removal Problems

Hello. I am trying to remove the fork from my Trek TTX, which has a Cane Creek IS2 headset. However, the compression ring is stuck onto the steerer tube. (compression ring = the slotted ring whose inside contacts the steerer and whose outside contacts the cartridge bearing- https://www.canecreek.com/images/stor...12-16-2004.pdf). I have build a few bikes and this ring always comes right off. I have tried hitting the aluminum steerer section with a mallet but the fork is solidly in place. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ben

That is odd. I have used the IS2 on a couple of carbon steerer forks and never had that problem. Wonder if there there has been some corrosion? Might be worth it to try a bit of liquid wrench.

Fixed. Increased beating with the rubber mallet did the trick.

Thanks,
Ben

If the hammer you're using aint working, you need a bigger one.
