Late to the Party: Jones H-bar on a Monster Cross
After years of deriding their looks, I recently replaced the Cowchippers on my Black Mountain Monster Cross with a Jones H-bar 660, and I really like it. I shortened the stem so that the "aero" position is usable and the section just in front of the crossbar is in about the same position as where the hoods used to sit. It's very comfortable in all hand positions, and I have no regrets on choosing the narrower model for the tight, woodsy singletrack around here. Jeff Jones got a lot of things right; I probably should have done this sooner.

Good to hear. I put one on my early 2000s Cannondale hard tail a couple of years ago and used that for varied terrain riding. I built up a Salsa Timberjack this last winter with the Jones Bar and love it for the multiple hand positions and ability to mount lots of gear.

Lots of folks are discovering the Jones Bars these days as a great upgrade for do-all bikes.

Those look very practical with the various handhold positions. I wish they had a narrower road option.

I’d agree that the Jones bar has a lot going for it. I’m using the knockoff version of the Nitto Albatross from Sunlite as a narrower, even more swept alternative to the Jones bar.
With a really long stem, the forward bend is about where the Jones front part would fall, and the grips end up straddling the steering axis which is about where a Jones bar would usually put them.
Of course it’s narrower and the grip angle is different. I’m running SS and I find that swept grip angle is awesome for long periods of standing and climbing.
That said, I’ll probably get a shorter stem and try out the Jones bar at some point. 👍
