Edit... Pads ordered. I can't lower the rear straddle much, but now it stops so much better. I can only imagine that good pads will improve even more. Thanks!! No time to ride today,, but just maybe in the morning!

My Fuji Sundance is setup as a hybrid at the moment. Although, it's really just the slick tires that make it so.

Bought this Marin Muirwoods in 1995 BNIB (one year before my son was born). He now "owns" it and loves how smooth it is.
It wore Specialized Fatboy 1.5" Slicks and SPD pedals when I had it.....

When my son and I get together for a ride and I see him enjoying the bike, a lot of good memories come back to me of the days when said bike gave me similar joy.
He has a "modern day" aluminum hard-tail but prefers the steel ride smoothness of the Marin and the sentimental value/history of the bike.

My '87 Schwinn Mirada, third that I've owned. It's my all-purpose everyday rider for errands, grocery runs, recreational riding with wife and kids, occasional train station commuting. Got this one as a freebie from a relative 10 years ago and have put 3600 miles on it since then. I owned an early 90s Mirada and the drop in quality was shocking, the 80s models ride so much better and feel so much more solid and quality built.

Not to derail the conversation, but what is likely GT's reason for using U-brakes up on the seat stays like that? I've seen them mostly down under the chain stays, and I gather they're optimal for that location because they're relatively compact. If they were putting brakes up on the seat stays, why wouldn't they have used cantilevers? Especailly since they had cantilevers on the front? Perhaps their small footprint benefits heel clearance, especially on a smaller or tucked frame?

Those brakes needed constant adjustment to compensate for pad wear due to their post placement. BITD it was not uncommon to work on the brakes after each ride to keep the performance up. My BMX freestyle friends would carry wrenches and adjust em mid-ride. Anything that made them harder to work on was not welcome.

got this at a flea market years ago - and sat buried in my garage until just recently when I began to ride again
have a few upgrades planned - although I might not be using it as much as I recently got a Fisher Aquila (slight upgrade over the Tassajara)
