From yesterday at the Ballard Crit 4/5's (first win)
Suffering... (#1 on my back is for series leader)
Celebration is by the team mate (a youngin') that gave me the awesome leadout ftw. I'd buy him a drink but he's not old enough (had to leave from prom right after the race!)
Realizing it was in the bag - and overcome with joy.
Too bad she didn't catch my salute after I crossed the line - sat up with arms out to the side, I like to think of it as my cat 3 birth of sorts.

Making a kilometer blurry
I remember backpacking with my dad when I was about 8. We got 2 feet of snow overnight and when we woke up, there were bear tracks all over the camp. My dad had heard him/her walking around, and had the .44 ready, but didn't wake me up for it. We bear-bagged, so there wasn't much interest for a bear. Still, interesting laying on the ground in a forest, and the only thing between me and a hungry bear is some fabric thinner than a t-shirt.
Had many bruin encounters over the years, and they're really not a big deal (at least the black bears). Just stay away from cubs.

ive had a couple myself, all blackbears... one was on a really fast descent with a blind left curve, the bear was on the right side of the road, just watching me and i was totally worried about getting too close at speed, so i pinned myself to the inside line just praying there was nobody coming up the other way.

I was riding on Skyline Dr. a few years back and a bear was hanging out in the middle of the road, I had a camera and thought "I'll stop and take a pic...then my brain kicked in and I rode post and then looked back and took a pic.
Off the back of the main group in no man's land after a sprint to bridge when someone let a gap open followed by being overgeared for an uphill turn. Photo props to Tim Speciale.

Ohio State TT
Standard Roadbike class, 1st place. This was mile 21ish, going 30+ with the wind and I'm not happy.

Not suffering yet. Only 5 minutes into the State 40k TT. In 5 more minutes, I take a bug to the eye. In 10 more minutes, I'll get a bee trapped in my helmet, which stings the **** out of my forehead. Chose not to wear sunglasses because of the 95 degree heat. Sweat would just fill the lens. In 45 more minutes, my groin will be on fire. I suffered all morning.

Hey, Nick, my teammate took that pic! You were one of many who got stung by bees on Sunday. Ouch.

I heard a girl took one to the mouth! And I thought I had it bad.
You ride with Riptide? We're doing some training out that way on Saturday, in Lambertville. Then going to Riverhorse for some beers.

Yeah, Jan is great! And you heard right - a bee actually stung one of the Somerset women on the inside of her mouth.
I'm not going to post the pic of me. I was in a bad place for that race. I know you're supposed to leave it on the course, but I think I left it at home. I've never felt that bad during a race. I wanted to stop and let the air out of a tire so I could pretend I had a flat. I'm still sick, 3 days later, so I'm going to the doc tomorrow.
Saturday, you say? I'm supposed to be doing hill work that day so if you see a Riptide kit out there it may be me.

Also, WTF was up with the bees last weekend? My teammate nearly took me out as we were warming up for our TTT when one flew into her helmet. Fortunately, we managed to do it right in front of one of the other teams, surely striking fear into the hearts of our enemies as we ineptly bounced off each other for seemingly no reason.

more reason to tape up the vents in those TT helmets.
I had one fly into my helmet vents at Owasco last year. I had to pull out of the peloton so I could sit up, take hands off bars and take my helmet off to get rid of the bee. Fortunately the Masters racers were nice enough to let me back in to my spot. By that time I had a nice red golf ball on my forehead, but it was nearly gone by the end of the race.

Hang in there dude, it'll pass. I was about ready to leave my bike in Syracuse after the sad excuse for a race weekend I had there, but a week easy was all I needed to start feeling good again.
