I did the south end of Skyline Drive again. 110 miles, 8800 feet of climbing:

https://connect.garmin.com/activity/163458511

Stopped for a "natural break" and noticed the clamp on my saddle rails had worked loose. The saddle was only held on by the straps of my seat bag

Only the one wayside at Big Meadows was open, at MP 51, so the other stops were at the closed wayside at Loft Mountain. The bugs were horrific. I had to keep moving to keep from getting eaten up.

What a beautiful day though. Never got below 58 degrees, and got up into the mid-70's. Had the tailwind when I needed it. What more could you ask?

Went to the wilderness MUP with the wife to do my normal 30 miles but ended up doing only 16 as the park was really crowded this morning. I rode some with the wife and then finished the loop on my own. Would have done another lap but we have theater tickets for this afternoon and riding another lap, with all those people at the park, would have been cutting it close. I'll make up for it this week.

NealH and I got out early to ride the Pigeon Loop, a local ride with many of the miles in either national forest or national park. Beautiful day for a ride though cool to start and windy up on the ridge. Just under 45 miles and over 3800' of climbing today.

Did 44 miles on the tandem today. It would have been more but we had a technical problem - the stoker's BB started coming open. Danged French threads. I discovered the problem when we stopped for lunch by the Concord River. Made a quick call to Ride Studio Cafe back in Lexington and they said sure, come by and you can use our tools to fix it. Very generous of them! (If you've never been by there, do go by at least once. And be prepared for extreme friendliness!)

Passing through Lexington the first time while the Lexington Militia was mustering on the green, presumably in preparation for Patriots Day:

Stopping for lunch beneath the Rt225 bridge over the Concord River:

Finally, a bit of rest at Fern's in Carlisle:

Nice report Jim, got to keep that shop in mind just in case. Good shops that can and will help are worth their rate in gold.

I rode Friday and today, the usual, and had a great time. Weather was absolutely beautiful with temp at 82 F and a slight south wind cooling things off on the return leg. this made 6 out of 7 days I managed to ride this week. Allllrrrighhhtttt.

Rain came through Central Indiana this morning. I passed on the likely-wet 11am club ride and instead rode by myself a bit later after things dried out - south on Mann Road and then back on Morgantown Road. 24 miles with a bit of a headwind out and a bit of a tailwind much of the way back. That's the way wind should behave, if a tailwind both ways can't be arranged.

Then, later in the afternoon, rode 8 miles on the Screamer with wife/stoker.

I did a 78-mile train ride today with some friends. Took the train north and then rode home. We had a tailwind on the coast so I averaged 16.1 mph. Woo hoo!

Really sweet weather this weekend, didn't have a lot of FUNDS so we just rode around town, it felt like SUMMER, not Spring but got a cold front heading in tonight, suppose to be quite chilly for a couple of days. 20 miles each day but with lot's of stops and GREAT lunches. I managed to ride the 50K ride on St. Patrick's Day, just found a 54 mile intermediate ride on new semi-local century ride so I'm slowly working up to 50 miles, 50K, then 50 miles, maybe a Metric before the season ends!

We did this on a brilliant spring day. Spent some time cleaning the garage and rewarded ourselves with the first tandem ride in 7-ish months. c_gallagh's broken wrist, our 1/2 marathon trainings, etc., contributed to the tandem's long-term hanging from the garage roof. A very satisfying day culminating in a satisfying ride.

Temps were in the upper 50s but would fall as we ascended. The forecast was for the clouds to push on and the valley temps to get to the mid 70s. Well as you can see in the picture below that didn't happen and when we got to the closed visitor center at Craggy Gardens the wind was blowing pretty hard, it was very foggy and the temp had dropped to 45º. Being in shorts and light arm warmers made it pretty cold and with very low visibility we decided to cut our loses and head back down. The first 7 miles down was quite chilly even with the added vest and we were glad to make it back to the car where temps were 20º higher. It was a good climb though, always one of my favorites, and Mitchell will still be there the next time we ride over that way.

Oh my. You never know what Mitchell brings this time of year. Reminds me of the time I left from just a few miles further south and it was 60-70 degrees. I got into sleet about Craggy Gardens but kept going to the top. While chilled it wasn't too bad while climbing. I had a temp gauge on my computer and it got down to the high 30's. Boy was it freezing on the ride back back down. I was shaking so hard the bike was almost unstable.

75 miles and 5000 ft of climbing. When you're 20 pounds heavier hills feel three times as steep. Good grief.

Tell me about it. They also seem to take three times as long to get up.

Went out for a quick 25 miles after getting a flat yesterday and cutting me off at 9 miles as it started to pour (S. Florida rainstorm) and them trying to change the tire in the rain couldn't get the co2 to work. Ending pushing bike to shop 2 miles away and wife picking me up when the rain came up again. So today I tried to make up for it and took the same route and it happens again, flat after 18 miles. This is now two flats in 18 miles after none for 1,000. Maybe it's the law of averages catching up.

Got a late start this morning; around 11:00 am. Temps were already in the mid 80's when we started the hills two counties to the north. Got in a very hot, 38 mile ride with temps reaching 86º around 1:00 pm. I'm glad the MS 150, that we participate in, only happens once a year. Between the hour drive (each way) and the ride, this is wearing me out.

Hey jppe, great to see you posting again. Everything going okay for y'all?

I did my usual course but took it easy this afternoon with my pace, still feeling better and able to spin up the big ring better. The afternoon thunderstorms were just a lot of noise and breezes, no rain around my place at all. Waited an hour after the last lightning strike on the Weather Channel's visual and went out to ride. Worth the wait.
