Totally out of the blue - but have you ever tried the next size wider bars? Try some out if you have a chance....and if you're feeling crazy try a shorter stem as well.

Based on pictures of me like that I considered getting wider bars for the first time in 20 years of riding. The change has been amazing. I also shortened up the stem (against my instincts which were telling me to go longer) and had another suprisingly good reaction.
To test it out - while riding in your current setup - when you find yourself ont he limit try to simulate hand positions you would have if the bars were wider and see how you feel in the chest with breathing.
You might be pretty surprised.

Just personal experience. Your chest and arm positions when on the limit look exactly the way mine have in the past.

I do have broad shoulders that might benefit from wider bars. As I've never felt squeezed on my current setup, I've never thought about it.
As for stem length, I have freakishly long arms which makes dialing in my stem rather difficult. Shorter does seem counter-intuitive, but perhaps worth a try sometime.

You beat Mark too, that's no easy task. I hope I'll actually make it out next week.. and then to the Gig Harbor race on the 15th, it's on!
Btw on the 16th I think the Brad Lewis Crit (Boat Street) is going down, and the USAC Seward race is on the 30th. Still some races left in the season, see ya on the road!

WOW! Lots of great photos with some fast looking guys!!! Woops, sorry the pix are so big, I don't know how to resize and the others are too small.
California/Nevada State Championships. I took a 5th out of 100 in the 4s and a 2nd out of about 90 in 30+. This is my first yr of riding and racing and my first 4 race. Fun race, but a lot of crashes, more than the 5s LOL!! Big fields of a 100 with a State Jersey to be won; people just go a that much harder.
The guy taking the drink is really fast. Always sat in the front and pushed the pace, this was his last race a 4. Super nice guy with a ton of talent.
Coming in second in the 30+.

My guess is that you would have won the sprint if you'd done that.
Good show nonetheless

Taking some points in last night's road bike points race. The category is "licensed men," so basically cat 1-5. I usually do stupid stuff to level the playing field a bit, like doing full lap (660m) leadouts before the sprints as I did in this photo.

....yeah, about the legs. I got lazy travelling this summer and forgot about it until saturday night. Just decided to drop it (they'll be smooth for my next race).
I'm planning on racing the B's for UCB next spring. You?

Yeah ill be a B for Humboldt State. Was a C last semester, placed top 10 in all RRs but Santa Cruz and about half of the crits w no teammates. Podium'd at Davis.
Just like last spring im sure ill end up in the perfect spot with a couple strong guys in the categories above and below me but no one on my level .
Were you a C last semester?

Yeah, I raced C's. You had a much better year than I. This semester I was doing my qualifiers and had a wee bit 'o heart surgery in March -- I missed quite a few races and a fair amount of training. I'm planning to train uninterrupted this fall/spring, so we'll see how it goes.
