Got a free Road Warrior today!

I was gifted this little gem today! I was at a neighbors house and asked about "that old bike outside" and before I got to the "k" in bike she said TAKE IT! It was in a pile of stuff going to the dump, and the Cannondale frame piqued my interest, and "hand made in the USA" made me ask about it.

The rear brake is gone, and so is the front wheel, I just threw that one on for the photo, (it belongs to the Miyata 310).

I can't imagine it's anything special, but it is LIGHT. My bikes are all steel but my dad has a Cannondale Quick and a Gary Fisher Sugar three and its lighter than either of those bikes.

Shimano 105 derailleurs, and "Delta" brakes, at least the front one!

Not sure what do do with it yet but I think it's crying out for bullhorn bars.

This N+1 is ridiculous, after the 912 I'd signed off new bikes, and this thing lands in my lap for $0.00. I've been hoping to find something to convert to a fixie but this has vertical drops. Maybe it'll be a nice foul weather bike, what with the all aluminum frame?

How would I go about dating this thing?

Actually let me amend that to: Recommend a front wheel to me. How much should I expect to spend? Would upgrading just the front be wise? Same question but rear brake caliper.

Well, called the LBS today, looks like my best bet for a replacement road wheel is keeping an eye on Craigslist for a A) a wheel B) a cheap bike with a wheel.

Unless youre looking for the exact rim and hub combo to what you have, your front wheel should be easy to source at various price points. It's a very generic part - a non disc 700c rim laced to a 100mm QR front hub. The rear, if 135mm would be a bit harder to source but the front is very generic and a good shop will have at least one stocked ready to go, as these are very commonly stolen in urban areas.

As for the brakes; from what I can tell that's not a Campy Delta brake, that would've made this a mega score. IMO Dual pivot is good for the front, the rear is not important.

Nice score. Its got the post 2000 head badge and its a pre-taiwan frame (09-10?) Free is always great, but this is a nice bike with a quality frame and nice parts. The older models were very light indeed, especially in the 90s, with 2.8lb frames - most mid level Al frames now are in the 4-5lb range. One of the main qualities of this brand was being the opposite of heavy. The first thing we did to a C bike was lift it up, and many weight weenies used their frames for light builds.

Here's a link showing how to decipher the serial number to date your frame's manufacture date (different from model year): Vintage Cannondale ? Serial Numbers & Information | VintageCannondale.com

These are the brakes, that look like they say delta or "><LTA"
along with the frame sticker, and that first picture is the FLIPPIN' front WHEEL!
I was just over again and said "you happen to have the front wheel? And she says "oh! I think I have it... Let me check the shed... And boom, front wheel!

So I'm a vintage steel guy and can tell you about double, triple, and splined frames but no idea what a CAAD frame is... Made with C.A.D. Programming? Is this nicer than I think it is? I just figured middling hybrid and light because of the aluminum...

...and I'll check the serial number but I think it's an 04

B is just N+1 again. I've been down that route. You'll find a better than expected deal and the cheap bike won't be a "cheap" bike and you'll want to ride that one as well

Ha! See my previous post! She had the wheel in the back shed!

so I need to replace the front derailleur cable, and a rear brake caliper... But so far no money spent...

Which warrior number is it? I have a 900 which was made in 2002. My guess is since yours has the Slice fork, it's from 2007-10. If you ever do need to replace the wheels, I put a set of these on my Warrior and love them. Vuelta Corsa HD Road Wheelset Nice and solid, build for the city.

I believe the original was CAD ie. Computer Aided Design, then the subsequent frames were marked CAAD (Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design) I think the aluminum was US made, along with the frame. Go forward to now, where the majority are made off shore, the CAAD prestige has diminished somewhat. You have an original.

It's a Road Warrior 600, and I still think an '04
2004 Cannondale Road Warrior 600 - BikePedia

which makes it a CAAD4 according to my googling yesterday?

FYI, according to Bicycle Blue Book this is what you just got gifted:

2004 Cannondale Road Warrior 600 - New and Used Bike Value

For me personally, I'd make it into an all-weather, upright city bike. I see a fair number of this class of hybrid bike get sold in the $75-125 range here in San Diego. Which is pretty cheap considering these were $600-800 bikes when they were new 10 years ago, a solid couple of notches above the best Walmart/Target bikes. If the wheels are not shot, you got a quite decent bike for free.

So this bike was produced when Al started transitioning from "stiff and light" to today's "compliant+light." caad4 starts with the sub 3lb caad3 frame made famous by Cipollini, Tinker, and Sydor; and adds s bend seat stays for compliance. By 04 they were up to caad7 or something. caad5 and 6 were minor things like integrated headsets and bottom brackets. caad 7 started their proprietary alloy IIRC.

A modern Al frame has the potential to be more compliant and even lighter, but a sub 3lb frame is still a respectable weight that most mid modern level Al frames will not be able to match
