12th Annual Greater Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage Ride - April 21
WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.
WHEN: Saturday April 21, 2018. Meet at 8:30, start ride at 9:00 am.
WHERE: Crystal Lake Main Beach Parking Lot - https://goo.gl/maps/4EhUKKHiHdS2
FORMAT: A nice leisurely 40-mile ride, flat as a pancake, fish tacos at the end of the ride. This is the route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4101456 I will have a print out of the map and cue sheet at the start of the ride.
No-Drop rule, B-group speed.
Only moral support is provided. You must provide your own fluid/food for the ride. There is a stop at a quiky mart at the halfway point for food and drink.
WHY: This is meant as a social ride. It is an opportunity for vintage enthusiasts, friends and acquaintances to get together and meet, and ride together in a group. And eat some great tacos, or torta, or burrito or whatever floats your boat. No pictures from last year's ride, I had a really bad back. Here are 2016 pictures - https://www.flickr.com/photos/681231...57667493061665
Feel free to bring other riders as well, but remember this is not an “organized event”. This is simply a large group ride.
Please spread the word to anyone else you think might be interested.

Not sure I will be in shape for a 40 mile ride by then or not, but will note it.

Rode the course. Some new pavement, some new rough stuff, as expected. Should be fine in April.

Sounds good!
If the weather is sunny, I'll probably bring the Olmo. If the forecast is a bit more moist, then it'll be something fendered and made by a small framebuilder.

This sounds like a really fun time. Unfortunately it's the same day as the Barry Roubaix

I've done this ride for most of the last 8 years or so. I won't be able to attend this year though. I work in retail and Saturdays are hard for me to get as a day off. However, this ride comes highly recommended. Good route, good people, great food, and a terrific host. If you're on the fence about whether or not to do this ride, just do it.

Hard to believe that the forecast is calling for snow tonight... possibly 1" to 3"!
Good heavens!
I've been slogging around on my fendered bikes most of this year, but finally got the Hetchins out yesterday when it got up to 40F! Quite a luxury to ride a light bike w/o fenders.
Keeping my fingers crossed for good weather on the 21st. Seems like we are paying our dues in early April, so we deserve good weather in the second half of the month!

One week reminder. Current forecast is a 20% chance you will need fenders.
