oh, c'mon...it doesn't feature a boy and a tiger (whose dual nature of stuffed animal/living being symbolizes a certain subjectiveness of a reality) who are named after a philosopher and a theologian. and doesn't feature jokes based on philosophy, sociology, science, and theology, among others. and...honestly, some calvin and hobbes strips have hit me right behind the eyes and made me laugh at the same time....that's something.

Calvin and Hobbes is definitely the best unless you count Family Circus. No no no- C&H is the best

Shiftless bum
Apart from the excellence of the strip & the exceptional art quality, I have immense respect for Bill Watterson's refusal to commercialize the characters. Every product you see with Calvin and Hobbes on it is a rip-off.

Calvin and Hobbes gets props in my book, but the greatest ever? IMO I think Opus has them beat.

Bloom County spoiled me for comics when I realized it wasn't the same as Doonesbury, and then Calvin and Hobbes made it impossible to even consider handling the section of the newspaper that may contain comics.
The best ever.
The best ever.

i was really sad when i heard there wouldn't be anymore new C&H. between some various collections books i have every strip made, but i still REALLY want that nice bound edition, just to have. it's one of those things where the cost of it is immensely outweighed by the contribution this strip has made to my childhood, and now my adult life as i go back and read them.

Gotta love the sport of Calvinball. Watterson's imagination is pure (hopefully evil) genius to come up with something like that.

Back in 91 or 92 I got me a Calvin tattoo on my right shoulder with the hopes of getting Hobbes attacking from behind. My tat artist said it was the first one he's seen and did. Now Calvin and his clones are all over the place!

For me, it's
1. Peanuts (especially 50's and 60's)
2. Bloom County
3. Calvin n Hobbes
4. Get Fuzzy
